Seems to me your loosing some of what makes the MKIIC+ special by not using the 6l6/el34 mix. I was playing mine tonight at marveling how good it sounds.

MKIIC+ modded. It sounds terrific. 100 watt. Here is another picture on a different cab.

And what proof do you have to support this claim? Why would he start winding his own transformers? I have never heard or seen any evidence of that.

This head was supposed to have belonged to McLaughlin for time. The story I got was that Carlos gave it to him while they were in California and after the gigs and recording John gave it back rather then ship it home. Cool story.

It is a Tone Tubby and that is what I would suggest I love these speakers with my MKIIC+. I also use a Fane 100 alnico in my Combo but only because they don't make a 100 watt Tone Tubby (40 watt). That's the alnico hemp cone hp version.

I hear a high pitch ring trailing the note played. I can't tell if the ring changes pitch with the note played it is extremely high pitch very faint and rings like a bell. I don't hear it at band practice only when playing alone. Is this normal? :? It is on my MKIIC+ head, no eq, no reverb...

I wonder what happened to that amp why they pulled the auction. I don't think that is the original cabinet. :roll:

Old 1966. Cranking amp. I use it for both guitar loud and bass at low volumes.

You didn't say what amp you are putting them in? I use Tungsol 5881 they made tons of them for the military so you can get them NOS and they don't cost a fortune they really sound great in my Bassman. I don't use them in any of my Boogies I use American made black plates in the MKI and Mesa...

I agree that the wood makes a difference but it is so small it pales in significants to any of a dozen other variables. If you have two cabs built exactly the same with the same speakers and grill cloth you might be able to say you hear a difference in the wood but under 99% of the...

I used the 4" paper but they actually measure slightly less as I turned the outer edge which comes bent to wrap around the aluminum. I used to use 4.5" flat ones they might have been too much and the domed ones blend the highs back in better then the flat ones do so 5" domed ones might not be...

Sheet aluminum I buy at Home depot and the dome from a speaker called a dust shield same thing Weber uses. You can get the domes at Parts Express for less then a buck each. I cut the shape out like Weber on a band saw and glue on the dome paint the flat side front black and install between the...

I use home made beam blockers on all my speakers in all my cabs and most of my combos... about 2 dozen. Couldn't do that is I had to buy them. Make them yourself cost less the $2 each.

That's pretty darn cool. But I would love to have one of the Fender Princeton's that Randal modified when he worked in the back of the music store.

That sounds great. The only amps I use a tube reverb on are my MKIIC+ and my Vibrolux. :wink:

Ha...mine are 20+ years old and I think that describes them perfect. They only warm up when played at ridicules volumes. Still they are great for that scooped heavy pounding sound. :wink:
