    Blue Angel and pedals

Mine loves pedals, great amp!! More versatile than it would appear at first glance and VERY easy to dial for both single coil and humbuckers. These are an overlooked gem of the Mesa line IMO. I think of it as a Fender Deluxe Reverb and Vox AC30 in one box with better build quality than either...

Why is my 45 watt Mesa alot louder than my 30 watt Mesa?

Are the speakers identical? Some speakers are far more efficient than others. The load on the OT could be different. The taper on the pots could be different, V1 (first preamp tube in the circuit) could have substantially different gain. There may be more resistance in the input circuit that...

    5/50 Express no sound

If there was no smoke or smell it is probably a dead preamp tube.

Auction for 2 EVM 12L's in Calif

Wired in parallel two 8 ohm speakers will be 4 ohms. Wired in series two 8 ohm speakers will be 16 ohms. If you want to use more than one cab, wire them in series and two 16 ohm cabs plugged in together will be 8 ohms. Hope this helps.

    I might be leaving?

If you have a serious conservative idea of the value of your present rigs, maybe buy the Fuchs w/ a credit card before you sell the others. That way you can try it out in your world and make sure you truly love it before you ditch the equipment that has served you so well up to now. If the Fuchs...

Auction for 2 EVM 12L's in Calif

$225 seems very reasonable for NOS EVM 12Ls. You can't get that stuff no more! Hope you grabbed em, $25 is a drop in the bucket.

Tremoverb no sound on orange channel

Sounds like a preamp tube for that channel has gone out. Use a known good tube (you do have spares, right?) and pull one tube at a time and put in the good one. If nothing changes put the old tube back in and go to the next one. Good luck.

Whats up with those soldered speaker connections?

I've un/resoldered dozens of speakers with zero problems. I am going to guess that the lead to the voice coil came unsoldered at the terminal on your speaker or the joint is cold. I prefer a higher wattage soldering gun for speakers, you can melt the solder quickly and move on. Speaker...

    Best Amp I Ever........

Once plugged a Yamaha 100 watt FET solid state head from the speaker out into a Silvertone/Danelectro amp with 2 6V6s. I went from the speaker out of the dimed Yamaha into the input on the Dano. It was the best tone ever for about 5 minutes and then the yellow smoke rolled forth!! :D :shock...

Auction for 2 EVM 12L's in Calif

As you wish, for my purposes a 4-12 Celestion box makes good ballast. I wish I had never bothered with replacing fatigued Celestions, they have not thrived under my hand and the bass is too murky/flubby to please me. Plus the mids are not voiced to my guitars (335 w EMG HB/81 and Tele w EMG...

    Lonestar Special output impedance question

It was the only way they could get the 4/2/1 tube thing to work without switching to a different output transformer at the same time. If you pull one pair from a Fender Twin the output impedance goes down from 8 ohms to 4. Same thing happens on a Mesa amp, laws of physics will prevail. From what...

Auction for 2 EVM 12L's in Calif

Yes, a 4-12 with Celestions (full quote please) will sound quite feeble next to a 2-12 loaded with the EV's. Try it and see. Plus, long after the crappy Celestions have fatigued and been replaced the EVs will continue to crush cab after cab. Been there, done that, got the hearing damage to prove...

    Best amp series...what's yours?!?!?!

Since the rectifier series includes a couple of oddball Dual Rectifiers and I own them both, it gets my vote. I looked for a way to officially vote in the poll but can't seem to find it> Been a long day....anyway, played my Maverick at practice tonight and it was glorious. Will be pulling the...

Auction for 2 EVM 12L's in Calif

Currently $100, a smoking deal for these speakers. A 2-12 with these will crush any 4-12 Celestion box you care to put up against it like a tiny little insect. If they were anywhere near me I would stay in to about $275 for the pair. Good luck.

    this might help

EMGs are very sensitive to the height adjustment, get too close (which is what the factory recommends) and they can be harsh. Since they have such a low noise floor you can lower them down a bit and the sound will open up some. I have an 81 in the bridge of my ES-335 and it is lowered way down...

Woolly LSC tone - any thoughts?

Try lowering the pickups on your guitar and turning the output up to compensate. Consider a 5751 or 12at7 in the first position of the lead channel (check schematic, was V2 in my Maverick). This will give you a wider range of lower gain sounds and allow the output to breath more also.

    New amps for 2008???

A Maverick with 6V6s and the option to shut off two of the four tubes. I don't think you would need to change the circuit much, just the sockets. Too many micro switches on the Lonestars and Expresses. Bring back simplicity please!!

Removing the Mark IV from its shell?

Not sure about this model but many Mesa amps have a bolt somewhere near the middle of the chassis that extends past the top (or bottom) of the chassis and presses against the cabinet to add stiffness and reduce vibration. Worth a look anyway! Good luck.

this may be a dumb question but...

This may be beyond merely esoteric but Neil Young has a system that will physically turn the knobs on his 59 Fender Deluxe to any setting that he saves. It is sort of a mini-robot footswitch widget thing-a-mah-bob goodiie :D :D :D Dunno what one costs.

    a decent high gain amp

All good suggestions so far. Depending on your definition of high gain, you might want to try a Maverick. Has all the other features, GREAT clean channel and the gain channel will go well past overdrive into full on distortion. It won't get "Brutal" though, then again I have never plugged in a...
