Thinking about getting thetubestore.com's premium package http://thetubestore.com/sba-mesa-markv-2.html

Anyone have experience with these tubes? Affects of the switch?

I'm hoping that it will remove some of the fizziness in the amp.

I like the Tung-Sol preamp tubes, but (IMO) there's no need to retube the entire preamp unless you have the money to spare.

Only get the JJ rectifier tube if you actually use the tube rectifier, otherwise it's a waste of money. Also, be advised that the JJ rectifier tube will actually stiffen up the amp over the Sovtek version, which means less sag and a little more punch when using the tube rectifier. Myself, I found this to be counter productive and put the Sovtek back in.

As for the SEDs, I prefer EL34s.

^^ what he said!

Furthermore I would put a balanced Tung Sol in the phase inverter and a GE 5171 or a Mesa SPAX in the V1 slot.

V1 for all channels
V2 for the 2nd channel
V3 for all channels, but not really all-important

v4/5/6 ar not that important imho

v7 as pi is the most important after V1

EL34s were not my favorite tube before either, but they sound really good in that amp.
Try to be open minded ;-)

i've got a (low microphonics) tung-sol in v1 (the rest are stock mesa's) and am running 4 winged c 6l6's or winged c el34's in my V.

i like the 6l6's best for channel 3 rhythm, but prefer the el34's for leads. anyhow, this combination of tung-sol and winged c's brings what i've been looking for. really happy with the definition and lack of fizzyness :)

oh, and i had a JJ 5U4GB in there for a while, but i didn't feel there was much of a difference, so i went back to the stock mesa.
