I recently bought a V-twin rack preamp. Thought it would be a good addition to the Quad I already have.
I should be able to get most classic Boogie tones from that combination...

But... the V-twin rack seems to be a different (export?) version, without the switching options on the back. In stead og the 6 switching jack inputs, there is just a plain metal plate with two screws. there is clearly a module missing, if you take a look inside.

Can anybody of you V-twin rack owners show me some pictures of the inside of a regular V-twin rackmount? Or if anybody has a schematic, that would be usefull. I'd like to switch different channels of the V-twin and Quad with the switching jacks and a controller.

Maybe this module can be ordered from Mesa Engineering?

Any help is welcome!

Hello again...

I got some pictures from a very friendly guy who is selling his V-twin rackmount on e-bay. He actually opened up the whole thing, took pictures and sent 'm to me!

Great guy! Can't thank him enough!

Super. Sooo. I found out that the switching stuff is all included on the original printboards. No extra "switching card" is needed.I just need to drill some holes, install jacks and connect with a multi-cable to the original printboard.
(Why Mesa makes the V-twin rackmount so deep, I have no clue...)

There are 7 wires in the multicable. I presume one for each channel (solo 1-2-3, clean 1-2-3) and one connection to ground. I'll connect each of the wires to the hot of a jack and all the ground connections of the jacks to the ground wire of the multi-cable. (guess which one: far left or far right? purple or brown? I'll let you know...)

See the pictures...

Thanks again to the friendly guy at e-bay!

See here for some pictures:

I'd always wondered about the notation regarding "reverb" on the V-twin rack's circuit board. I guessed it was an idea that never got implemented.

You need something like a SR&D MIDI Octopus. It's a half-space rack box which has eight quarter-inch jacks on the back, and you connect those to whatever switching jacks you want to control via MIDI. Each patch can have any combination of the eight switches on or off, so when you send a MIDI program change message it'll change channels, turn on the reverb, turn the effects loop off--whatever you want that can be controlled on your amp via as quarter-inch short jack.

There's other devices that'll do the same thing (including the MIDI Matrix), but the Octopus is cheap and simple, albeit discontinued.
