mark v gives me major sad face

I have a 5 watt single ended amp with only 2 gain stages and the output stage. Its the most dynamic fun to play amp I have. Hoping I can dial a similar vibe from channel 1 and 10w mode.

I believe you will be able to achieve "a similar vibe" in many modes of all 3 channels of the MkV at 10W if you give it a chance. I certainly have! :mrgreen:

Who says the MkV is the swiss army knife of the Mk Series....capable of handling many styles, but master of none? The MkV is definitely the master of the 10W mode because no other Mark offers it.....and IMHO....the MkV in 10W mode offers alternate great sounds in all 3 channels for my needs.

Personally, I believe that many people that "Audition a MkV" don't even give the 10W mode a fair chance. No problem....their loss. The MkV isn't all about "Metal" even though that tends to be the "incorrect general concensus of this amp" IMO. Sure it can shine at metal...but it can also be set to sound great for virtually any style of music. My .02

Dwako, how do you run kt88 without an adjustable bias?

It was a typo, I run KT-66s not 88s... My head was thinking 66s but my hands thought differently. :roll:

This is a hard amp to use, not for n00bs like myself...I´ve never had something like the Mark V, and it has proven to be quite a challenge, specially given that I live in an apartment and can´t crank it up too loud.

So I thought I wouldn´t be able to "move" the knobs and have some awesome sounds. But I saw the Petrucci video, switched the amp to his "recommendations" and man am I happy.

Now that I´ve found some good starting point, I´m able to play more with the knobs and switches. If I suck at it, then I can always return to an awesome preset

Kill me if you will. Borrow an all tube Marshall if possible. See if it's the direction you are going before spending any money or time modifying a Mesa.
