You guess what amp this is. I give you 10,000 chocolate chip cookies. XTra Chips.

Also don't steal my riff please. I've been playing it for years.

Seriously though, what do you guys think of this tone? Pretty good? I'll let you guys know what amp and mic and all that it is after someone guesses :)
:D

Have fun!

Well, first, I'm guessing none of these were involved?
Line6 Pod XT Pro
Mesa Recto Recording Pre
Mesa 2:100
Mesa Oversize 4x12
This ain't easy - I could prob'ly get a sound like that from any Boogie that's not a Recto.
It sure sounds a lot like a 1 x 12 Vintage 30 Maverick I used to have - Rhythm channel cranked. Bright attack, not too saturated, El-84 chime.
Of course... I could be wrong. Me want cookie!

I love that tone. I have no idea what amp it would be. I agree with Mr. MarkIII, sounds like some EL-84 chime but I can't see a 1x12 having that kind of bass lest you did some fiddling post production. Sounds tight, closed back cab?

Can't wait to find out what it is. I like this idea of guessing the tone. I hope this is something that catches on or already is common and I missed. And I really need to know what mic/guitar u used too. If indeed you did used a mic. It sounds close and tight in a way that feels maybe it was direct or modelled (gasps). What ever it was I sure hope I can get it out of my .50cal+.

Oh it's definitely hard. I can tell you this much.... it's going to surprise you. :) To say it politely... YOU'RE WRONG! But you still get a cookie because I'm nice. Here's your cookie!

If Mavericks sound like this..... I should buy one!

Just out of curiosity what makes you say it sounds very EL-84ish? I want your opinion even if you have no real reason just say that. I'm very curious.

I did EQ the bass a bit. I have a pretty significant boost at roughly 160hz. I can tell you though, you're wrong! But like MrMarkIII you also get a cookie just because you're awesome and I'm awesome. Awesome people and cookies go together.

I don't know if many people are doing this tone guessing thing but, I think it would be awesome too.. Maybe I am starting something yeah? I hope there are more responses to this thread :)

Also I'm curious, as with my response to MrMarkIII, why do you say it has an EL84 sound? Let me know what you think. Regarding the 1x12 not having enough bass, I believe if you put the mic closer to the outer edge of the cone you can get a nice sound with bass that way of course you need to boost the lost higher frequencies with post EQ but that's not difficult. You can even do it live with a MXR eq or something...

I'm guessing its Orange

Oh I never thought about it. Come to think about it, it does sound quite a bit like maybe an AD30 or something along those lines huh.. You are however, wrong. :( Here's your cookie. :) lol

BTW nice list of gear you have there! What do you run your Quad into?

I will give you a hint, it's not an amp in your list of gear :)

EL-84... It sounds Vox-like, like a cranked AC-30.
But I could go Orange as well, as long as it's EL-84 equipped.
Hey, it's your list of gear (your signature):
Line6 Pod XT Pro
Mesa Recto Recording Pre
Mesa 2:100
Mesa Oversize 4x12

What do you mean it's my list of gear? :)

Ah so Vox-like sounds like that to you. I really like how Vox's sound. They are very toneful.

This should be fun. I hope the responses come flying in I'm eager to see what people think it is. Everyone should also vote for fun :)

One more time.
This list of gear below appears at the bottom of your (mikeymike's) posts.

Line6 Pod XT Pro
Mesa Recto Recording Pre
Mesa 2:100
Mesa Oversize 4x12

Are we correct in assuming you did (or did not) use any of this gear in the recording?

Hey I can't tell you that answer :) That would make it too easy don't you think? I will say what you think it is, it probably isn't and what you think it's not... it probably is

Let's just say it's tasty!

Ugh. I would hate to flame you, but...ah **** it here goes.

Cool riff, but not my taste in country tone. Infact, it sounds like ***. My shitty 15watt Marshall sounds better.

If I had to guess, it's either a homemade amp with a really poor balance ratio or a POD.

Peace and keep on truckin'.

This isn't country.

Show me an example of good tone okay? That might put a baseline on your opinion. Judging by your user name you wouldn't know tone if it smacked you in the face and ran over you with a loudspeaker blasting "THIS IS TONE" over and over again.

This way to the 14 year olds on youtube with "15 watt marshalls" or... successful troll is successful....

You're going to hate me... actually most people would... but my Quad sits and collects dust. The plans were, and still kinda are to run it in conjuction with my Road King. Have CH1 of the RK dedicated to running the Quad and then use 2 to 4 for the RK preamp. Then I'd have the 6 sounds from the Quad and 3 from the Road King... unless I start to utilize my solo function again and then it'd double, haha. Anyway, I haven't really used my Road King in a while either. I've been writing songs on my AD30 and Dual Rectifier because when I'm creating i like simplicity in my amps, then I'll start altering the tones afterwards.

The other options for a reconfiguration in my set-up would be to buy a Recto Recording Pre and a poweramp, then use the Quad in the rig. However that just means spending more money to achieve what I'm already achieving.

The reason I said Orange is because I also own the AD30 and my recorded tone from that sounds very similar. I don't have anything online to show you. The only song i have is Left - AD30 and Right - Dual Recto so put your ear phones in or just mute the right channel...
www.myspace.com/davidnorrismusic and listen to "Shotgun (Demo)"

Oh, anyone want to come to Brisbane, Australia and baby sit my gear for the next 2 weeks to 6 months (depending if i get work). I'm moving halfway across the country to live with my mate for a while and my gear is staying here... unused... untouched... just waiting to be cranked... anyone? :p

**** you guys have some crazy power plugs there. I was going to say mail your Roadking and Quad to me but, I wouldn't be able to plug them in! Would I? :?: I don't hate ya, I know someone who has a Studio Pre and a Quad and he doesn't use either. He has a 2:90 and an XT PRO like I do and he just uses the XT PRO for a preamp. I use mine for delays and other miscellaneous effects. You could always just mail me a jar of vegemite. I've heard it's horrid but, I'm strangely interested in it....

I just listened to the shotgun demo and the left channel was kinda muffled but I can hear a little similarity. I really like Dozed and Manchused though, it sounds very weird but interesting.

Mmm... vegemite on toast ROCKS!!

So when do we find out about this mysterious setup?

You think I should end it now?

By the way guys, the vote is change-able. If you feel like you voted in err then you can always change your vote later :) (that might come back to bite me in the ***)

I think I'll hold out for a few more :) I hope someone can come close... 8)

Is the part where you tell us you recorded it on a POD and we are all tube snobs?
