I just jammed today with some buddies and i observed the same thing. Like the jp2c lacks power. And is quite bright and shrill. Like something is holding it back whereas the mark iv i sold opens up like a monstereven with slight master movement. I actually thought that maybe something is wring...

i like the fact that it has good cleans and the lead channel is so smooth. no spiky highs.

i actually ask John Petrucci during our meet n greet at the progressive nation tour in boston if he had tried the mark v proto and his only reply was "i couldn't tell you that info" and smiled...

i modded my studio pre to c+ specs then sold it.i now have another one w/c im planning on modding.this version seems to be tighter, more mark iv ish. studio pre to effects return of dual rec sounds huge!

i got a 5150 block letter head and it has westinghouse brand tubes on it both 6l6 and 12ax7 is there anything special on those tubes?

they dont have to bring their guitars either coz i have em :wink: the good thing about high end gear is you can sell them at the price you both them. so tell your wife you're just trying it out. my wife really understands my tonal needs

i must say im impressed...no more harshness on both mark iv and dr. smooth highs. and good thing i can crank up a little more compared to my trad 4x12
