Mark IV - Full Service Tune-Up

My Mark IV was built in 1996 and has started to experience some common signs of wear and tear. I think it's time to send her in for a full refresh. I won't be sending the amp back to Mesa, but will be sending it to a local authorized Mesa repair tech in Nashville. I'm experiencing the...

Odd Design Choices: Why is Mark IV Volume Pot so Sensitive?

Just out of curiosity, what do you think the design philosophy behind the Mark IV's extremely odd volume taper was? You can't really turn it like a volume knob, you have to kinda nudge it with the side of your finger to make micro-adjustments else it goes from silent to too loud. Was that...

Mark IV - Slave Level Adjustments (Best Practices)

I'm using the Slave Out of my Mark IV to send a line level signal to a Matrix GT800 stereo poweramp for a W/D/W configuration. I'm a little confused on how best to balance the slave out level with the volume controls of the power amp. Is there "best practices" recommendation? Should I start...

Mark IV: What's the point of having Left & Right Effect Returns?

I get that the whole satellite feature is to achieve a stereo rig using a 2nd poweramp/speaker, but I don't understand they the Mark IV has 2 FX returns - L and R. What is the benefit of sending both returns of your Stereo FX Processor back to the Mark IV? Why wouldn't you send Return Left to...

    Mark V - Barely Audible w/Loop Engaged

All of a sudden the volume level across all 3 channels is very, very low. The loop send knob is set at 12 noon like it always is. If I hard-bypass the loop on the back everything seems to work fine. Once I engage the loop most of the volume disappears. This effects all channels in 10, 45 and 90...

Help: Removing Mark IV Chassis from Combo

I'm trying to convert my Mark IV Combo to a Head (just got my new headshell from Mesa today) but I can't seem to get the chassis out. I've removed the 4 screws on the top, the fan, the reverb tank and removed all the power tubes. I've turned the amp upside down but the chassis doesn't want to...

Slave Power Amp - Triple Rec vs Mark V?

As the title states, which amp would make a better power amp if you were going to use it as a slave? I'd be using it in a stereo setup with either a Mark IV or JCM 800 driving it. Not sure if there would be any difference but thought I'd ask.

Can a Mark V footswitch control a Recto at the same time?

Is it possible to have like a splitter cable and have one footswitch control the channels on both the Mark V and Recto at the same time? I don't care about reverb, boost etc. I just would like a single footswitch to switch between channels 1, 2 and 3 and both amps at the same time.

Anyone running a full stack with a 4x12 and 2x12 cabs?

Would it sound weird to run a head through a 4x12 recto cab on the left and a 2x12 recto cab on the right - spaced out about 10 feet? Would the 2x12 have noticeably less volume?

Mark IV Issues: Weird lower octave notes & volume swells

I recently picked up a Mark IV wide-body combo that's in very good condition and sounds great. I'm having 2 issues with it though. 1) Yesterday I noticed something odd... I have a G Major 2 in the loop that sounds terrific, but with delay there seems to be a weird doubling/octave effect going...

What's the power outlet on the back of the Mark IV for?

On the back of the head there's a 3 prong electrical outlet. What's it there for? Can I plug my pedal power supply into it? Cain I plug another head into it?

New Amp Day: Mesa Mark IV

I was bad. Really bad. I was supposed to be out Christmas shopping for my wife over the weekend. Traffic was utterly horrendous so I decided to stop by the local Fender shop to see if they had anything cool before I made my way to the mall. So I walk in and make my way to the amp room and there...

Can a G Major 2 be used in 2 loops? Mark IV and V in stereo.

Let's say I have 2 standalone combo amps, Mark IV and V, each with a series FX loop. The G Major 2 has a Left send/return and a Right send/return. Can I run amp IV to the left side of the G Major and amp V to the right side and get a stereo setup? I know people run stereo with stereo poweramps...

Does Mesa still sell new Mark IV head shells?

Founds a great looking combo that I want to rehouse into a new head shell, does Mesa still offer these?

What exactly is a Matched Set?

My local guitar shop has matched pairs of Mesa 6L6's on sale for $19 a pair. Can I buy 3 boxes and replace my power tubes in my Triple? Or do all 6 tubes have to be matched?

    What revision/year is my Triple?

    The serial says r-031449. Thanks!

    Lonestar vs Fender Princeton

I'm sure this is a loaded question but I'd like to know if a Lonestar Classic/Special combo can pull off the same lush reverb of a Fender Princeton Reissue. I absolutely LOVED the rich reverb on my PRRI but I had to end up selling it because the thing rattled on lower notes something awful and a...

Rectifier Effects Loop / Master Volume Guidance

So I've never liked having the effects loop engaged to enable the master volume on my Triple Rec because it always sounded worse to me than just using the channel masters, even at the same volume. Which was weird b/c I always use the master level on my Mark V and it sounds great. With my triple...

    Triple Rec: Is this normal?

I picked up a used 3 channel Triple Rec a while back. The clean channel is unusually dark sounding to me... as in I have to literally max out the treble and presence to get a normal bright sound out of it. If I don't max these out it sounds like the tone on my guitar is rolled all the way off...
