    Speaker cabinet poll

I bought an Earcandy 1X12 Sov a couple of years ago, totally smoked my Thiele and open back Mesa cabs. For a 1X12 it's got a very heavy bottom end. It is does not sound anything like an open back, so if you like that sound you wouldn't like a Sov. Louder and tighter bottom end than the Thiele...

Recommend good tube amp books please

Mesa may not have given him the right to publish their guts. I agree though Daves book is very easy to understand and read. Unlike several other I have that you need an EE degree to interpret. Of course I like the pictures too :)

what about Keef(Richards)? Mark series amp user?

The Doors??? I would have never suspected. As far as the Stones goes the old stuff is great, Sticky fingers the best, it all slid down hill after that. Honky Tonk Woman Chops are still classic, doesn't matter that no one can figure out who played them. I hope that I'm that rich, drunk and...

Just installed five Telefunken ECC83 NOS tube in my RK1...

Try a funken in V1 an EH's in the rest. That way you would have the chimey clean and the EH's are bright in the gain stages im my Boogies. Just a thought.

Is this squealing due to a microphonic tube?

Tap the preamp tubes with a pencil and see if they start ringing. If so replace, it certainly does sound like a bad tube though. The new Tungsol 12AX7's are my favorite new tubes. The old Mullards are still the best sounding IMHO.

    New Mesa Boogie rumor

Copy and pasted from another web site: New From Mesa Boogie! Got an inside tip about this from an industry buddy..... New from Mesa Boogie, the six channel Ballbuster. Three 1/4" inputs - low, normal, and active. Channels are "warm clean", "brite clean", "dirty clean", "crunch", "lead", and...

Dedicated FX loops for each Mark III channels

I do all of my effects and channel switching with a Rocktron Midimate, this controls the channel switching on 2 amps via a Rockman Midi Octopus. The Midi Octopus also controls the on/off of onboard effects on the amps. My Boogie has an Intellifex on the effects loop, and the other amp has a...

Gut shots of my IIB with effects loop mod

One of the "effects" reported by Mark IIb owners and Mike B. (from what I've read) that recieved the effects loop mod was the shift toward a C+ tones post mod. The Effects Loop mod is still available, but not the C+. I'm gonna wait for Boogiebabies responce as far as your amp having the C+...

Alternatives to 6L6 in a 60W Mark III?

I think the 5881's break up to fast so the lead channel is mushy. The 7581A'S are the best sounding IMHO, very crisp cleans and the crunch and sting are much more managable. The TAD 6L6 GC STR's tubes are my next favorite. I don't know what would happen if you used Yellowjackets and EL34's or...

Why are Mesa's thumped on all the boards???

Heck I love old Boogies, best amps ever. Different then a Marshall plexi or 74's in tone, but still balls to the wall Rock N' Roll. I think the premier Rock tone of the ages is a shared note between the Mesa Boogie and Marshall. That's my opinion. Now if someone can explain why they...

Petrucci mod, anyone knows what it is ?

The Schematics are in Jimmy Hoffa's left front Pocket, last seen levitating near Roswell New Mexico

    Is this a Mark IIB?

It looks exactly like my 60 watt Mark IIB. Very open sounding amps, I will never sell mine. I think it's one of the best clean to blues sounding Boogies ever made. It can get some dirt going too, but I prefer it's edge of breakup touch sensitive side.... Two Rock's are nice, IMHO the IIB is...

Wild West Guitars & Mesa amps (plus test drive results!)

Deizels are nice, but very hard on the wallet. Care to expand on the other Mesa's for sale, my son lives near there and has been looking for something to replace his Vox Valvetronix guitar tone faker. Thanks
