what about Keef(Richards)? Mark series amp user?

If you are a regular on this site, you are no doubt well aware that a large portion of discussion centers on two bands--Metallica and Dream Theatre>
That's all fine but i was curious as to why is there little to no talk of Keith Richards/Rolling Stones as users of the Mark series amps? I'm guessing some of this has to do with the differences is how Keith uses his amp vs. James H, et.al.

I don't really know much about it but would be interesting if anyone has any info on Keith Richards history/use of the Mark amps.

Say what you want, but Sticky Fingers was a great album. Great tone, semi-decent solos, cool grooves. Besides, everytime I ever played Sympathy for the Devil the chicks all started bouncing and you can't beat that.

Other than that Disco album, he never sold out or endorsed anything. He would probably have $ 400 mil if he did not have a smack habit.

Since everyone has an opinion, I would have to say he is an enduring legend and has left a very large mark on musical history with both his playing and mishaps.

He's still here and Hendrix isn't (unfortunately). I love AC/DC too and think that Angus is a mediocre player. He has great taste in notes for his solos and used to come up with great riffs, but he's not great.

Just because the guitarist isn't great or incredibly talented doesn't make the band suck. The guitarist isn't the only person in the band. Most people want to sing anyway and don't even notice if the guitarist was any good unfortunately. Most people couldn't even tell if anybody in the band was good.

Look at Nirvana, Kurt could neither sing or play and he single-handedly killed the big hair bands. I give him props for that, if nothing else, but can't stand Nirvana.




A good friend of mine is the new guitar teacher at the local college. He is in-fucking-credible. The guy is only 28 and can smoke almost any famous player that I have ever seen. BUT....it gets boring after a while. I went to see his fusion band a few weeks ago and found myself in awe of his rythm section and never even looked at the guitar.

This is my guitar teacher that I'm talking about. He absolutely rips, he could kick Satriani's or Eric Johnson's *** all over the fretboard, but it gets boring after a while.

Very well put. I had this same discussion with a couple of fellow board members a while back. We were watching some "Buckethead" clips on YouTube. Just because a guitar player knows a billion scales and can play them lightning fast does not make me want to listen to them for more than 30 seconds. The "coolness" factor is what turns me on. A guitar player who is the "shoot from the hip" type, if you know what I mean. The early ZZ Top (pre-Eliminator) licks from Rev. Billy G and anything by Joe Walsh are some that come to mind. Sometimes, less is more. Where the hell is my slide? Somebody loan me a talkbox! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Yeah, "Just got back from Baby" - "douse that light"! Give a spin to "Talk is Cheap" (Keef's folo disc with the Xpensive Winos) for some really good medium grind tones. I know he was a big user of the high-power tweed Fender Twins too, but he ALWAYS gets stellar tone IMHO. The Rev. Rules and so does Keef.Z
