So I've bought a few new amps lately and am itching to get a roadster head either new or 2nd hand. Obviously we get slaughtered pricewise in the UK on mesa gear so given a new roadster is about £2000 ish I thought I'd better check the warranty situation as I want to take it to australia. The UK distributors tell me the warranty will be void if I take it out the country and if I buy 2nd hand theres no warranty anyway.

So what's the deal with this transferable warranty stuff I keep hearing about and how come Mesa are so picky with there after sales, its almost like there looking for any excuse to bail out on a warranty issue, Marshall even sent me a list of nearby distributors to contact who'll be happy to pick up the balance of my warranties.

Gotta say its kind of putting me off buying one, perhaps they should take a look at soldano's warranty offer seeing as there sales price is about the same (ish).

AFAIK, Mesa carries a 5 year transferrable warranty, meaning that you can buy second hand, and still have the warranty. I've never had to deal with them, but from the stories I've been told, Mesa is not picky with their warranty work compared to other companies.

They are not picky...the dealers are giving you the short stick so you buy new from them. I've spoken on the phone with Mesa reps about transferring a warranty and they said it was very easy to do.

this is the email that the main UK distributor (not the dealer sent me)

'There is no warranty on second hand products. If you buy a new Mesa in Britain, it is only under warranty in Britain.
The best thing to do is buy one in Australia where it would be fully covered.

This is a link to the Australian distribution.'

If you buy a second-hand Mesa from a non-Mesa dealer the warranty is not transferrable.

It is transferrable between private individuals for the full five years.

International issues aside, Mesa has been great for allowing me to assume the warranties on a couple of used boogies, no problems at all.
