So i was experiencing an annoying amount of hum so i got myself the MXR smart gate. I am just wondering about the placement in the signal chain. MXR recommends to place it at the end, my only concern is will this kill my effects especially my delay pedal. The other thing is that MXR doesn't explain the toggle selectable switch modes actually do. Can anyone explain the full/mid/hiss design? Thanks

I simply run a Boss NS-2 at the end of my signal chain up front, not in the loop (I run no suppressor/gate in the loop at all although I do have delays.) From doing this I have had no problems with hum/hiss whatsoever, and I do run high gain in Ch.2 and Ch.3. As far as MXR goes, I had problems with the Carbon Copy and EVH90 with my V so I just stay away from MXR all-together. That being said, I don't think you will have any problems with MXR's gate. If that doesn't fix it I would start troubleshooting tubes.

hey,

I just picked up the new smart gate today... had a chance to play with it for 10 minutes or so. I put it in front with no other pedals yet, but I usually only use a chorus pedal on the clean channel.

It looks like the "full mid hiss" selector is a frequency range that the gate will affect. Full appears to be the most aggressive noise gate clamping off at all frequencies. "mid" focuses on the mids and hiss will try to clean up any hiss... ground loop or 55hz noise?

i would say if you use full, back off the knob on the pedal.

i think there are some good youtube vids to demo the pedal
