awesome tones! still using the recording outs? great to show all the controls

yeah I'm going to compare the main vs recording out whenever our band practices next. but there seems to be this abundance of harsh abrasiveness to the main outs that just is like a fingernail down a chalk board to my ears. It'd probably work for really heavy metal but it totally kills any lead channel smoothness.

I may invest in one of those MXR 10band eq's.

Right now I'm needing though a solo boost function. I read where you can remove the reverb and connect another something in the circuit but I don't want to have to sacrifice that.

I'm not happy with anything I get, haven't you read the CMBBS page? Hah hah. Actually it's an absolutely fantastic cab. Probably the best $200 I've spent on gear (I got an amazing deal on it). My Avatar 2x12 stays at home nowadays but I might add it back in just to have a more impressive looking little stackup, hah hah. By the way, just so you know I was banned from those pages of my own volition. I told MGE80 in a PM to f himself and go ahead and ban me. I have a pretty nice letter from Mark Kiesel which has restored my faith in Carvin though. The American Carvin anyway.

I really liked your lead tone. Sounds like you have great dynamics going on there and it seems to clean up pretty good with your volume controls. It's too bad that YouTube's crappy resolution doesn't allow people to see the sick flame on that C66. I'd like to hear what your clean tone sounds like with the volume knob on the guitar rolled back just a little. How're you liking your Studio vs. your V3?

Eh, there are plusses and minuses to the two. The V3 had all the bells and whistles, gain modes, fx loops, midi, blah blah. It was great when I first got it and probably the first year and a half of owning it becuase I used all of that stuff.

But as the months went on and our band's music started to find it's sound, the tone and feel of the V3 became less and less appealing compared to some of the other amps out there. My playing started needing more and more smoothness but still have a good lower midrange grind. The V3 had that grind in spades and though it COULD achieve a smooth singing lead, it didn't have quite the richness and open ness the studio pre has. The V3 has just a little too much compression that takes out a hair too much dynamics. I'm sure internal mods could fix it but the other thing I'm fascinated with is true stereo separation. I'm wanting to use my Gmajor and my buzz bomb and avatar to have a nice 3D delay/chorus going at our shows becuase I've written a lot of stuff that desparately needs that.

I haven't been to the carvinmuseum in a while. What happened between you and MGE that led to a letter from Mark?
