Hi guys.
I am buying used mesa oversized cabinet very soon. The guy I am buying it from gave me a choice to buy Mesa standard custom shop cab with black shadows (MC90) I think or to wait and buy classic Mesa standard cab with V30s.
He says Black shadows are definetely better choice and sound much greater than V30 (he`s opinion should not be biased since I am getting either of the 2 cabinets from him anyway)
My amp is Mesa Triple rectifier and guitar is Ibanez K-7 (mahagony, 7 strings)
I searched and found many opinions, also some clips, but I am more interested in opinions of the live sound of cab with black shadows, how the speakers response at high volumes, are they good match with rectos and also how good is it for dowtuned metal thing?
Could you help me out? Maybe share some experiences and throw an opinion if buy the black shadow cab or wait and buy V30 cab.
Thanks in advance.

MC90s have more bass, less midrange and more treble than V30s. They're also a little smoother sounding and are a bit more chunky instead of crunchy when driven.

Long story short, I think they're a good match for those looking for a smoother, more fluid tone... but if you're looking for a tight and heavy chugging tone I'd pass on them. They don't have the same punchy response as a V30, which to me is a big part of the Recto sound. When I palm mute I like that feeling of being punched in the guts and the MC90s don't have it. I find them more fat than aggressive.

That said, mine is only one opinion. There's a few other dudes around here that have MC90s and maybe they'll add their 2 cents as well.

As for the dude you're talking to not having a bias.... he's stuck with a cab that no one wants and is trying to get you to buy it. He's already paid for it and selling you that cab gets it off his inventory, whereas selling you a V30 loaded cab means he has to order (pay) for another cab.

There is a thread about this complete with audio clips!

I personally prefer to mix c90s with v30s but both speakers are good.

Thank you guys.
I heard those clips recently :) I prefer the V30 sound. The mix of those sounds beast too. I was also interested to know how they`re live.
Screamingdaisy pretty much desribed what I wanted to know. V30 looks like my choice, punchy, responsive, those are 2 attributes I aim for and I am also mainly a riff guy. But MC90 guys could jump in and tell what they love about MC90s.
As for the guy that I am buying it from. They are not really his cabs. As I understood well he is doing a business with used amps, cabs and guitars. You pay deposit and tell him what you want, get the max price set and he begins the search. He`s doing this for a long time already and probably has his sources where to get those things. And probably also people bring things to him to sell those for them (that`s how it came to the black shadow cab).
I wrote him I am interested to buy a mesa standard cab and now he keeps me informed with mails whenever something pops up. He`s really cool. I almost got a beautifull custom os green tolex cab looking brand new, but unfortunately his friend sold it to someone else.

I wish there was a dude like that around here...
