Hello all,
Just sharing my recent project. A friend of mine was selling his well toured Marshall cab, a 4X12 JCM800 Lead, mono @ 280w, with 4 Rola 65w drivers. I stripped it down, sanded, a friend took care of the wood filling/painting/sanding/painting again. He did a great job there. No vinyl as I don’t plan on touring or taking it out of the house often. If it ever becomes the case and the paint gets too damaged, maybe at that time, we’ll see. Anyway, then I took care of re-wiring the drivers, install the cloth and piping. I was debating if I should put that logo back on it or not, and if so, to paint it black or leave it white… I cracked and put it back original as it was still in decent shape.
I soldered the new 14ga copper wires as each terminals were too big for those clips and anyway, all I read is to solder, and do it lead free. All in all I am super happy with how it looks.
As for the sound, what a pleasant surprise! I am used to play in a 112 or two 112’s. I got 2 different 112’s with C90’s in them (a closed back wide body and a super wide 3/4 back. I also have an open back with a V30 in it. Now back to a 412 after many years without one… what a difference! And those G12-65’s Rola (Made in England) are very well broken in and sound marvellous with my TC50 head. I will keep one or 2 of my 112’s… maybe just one, we’ll see.

I share because I want to let you know that it’s not that complicated and well worth it!
Cheers,
