I have an older two channel triple rec and only have one thing that the user manual really doesn't describe well.

Can I use four cabs at the same time? I have four 16 ohm 4x10's as well as a slew of 8 ohm 4x12's but really want to use the 16 ohm 4x10's. The rear has four outputs one 16, one 8 and two four ohm.

Two 16's in parallel make 8, ok there's my first two, but the math really doesn't work with two more. Shouldn't they all be labeled 16?

I have been using it with all four and the manual just said you can do pretty much any cabinet combination you want, but you will wear tubes out faster... ???

BTW, if you've never heard this combination, you are missing a LOT :)

TIA,

Gary

Seems like 4 cabs would be kind of pointless. After 2 cabs, all you are doing is putting unnecessary wear on the tubes.

I'm asking something that may have been the intent of Mesa or else they could have put two output jacks with load switches like Marshall and Hiwatt did in the 60's no?

Now since you did not answer the question, have you ever played with 4 cabs in one head or two (shudder) stacks? If not all you are doing is adding heat without light to a conversation.

Now if you re-read my post you would see that I did not fret about hurting my tubes (or the whales, or snail darter either) and Mesa said it wouldn't damage the amp. My Q was more to clarify the ambiguity of what I read in the manual.

So going on the LAST SENTENCE above are there any Mesa folks that can answer the 4 cab question?

The different jacks are to give folks who own different ohm-rated cabs the ability to use the amp.

What a **** waffle.

How's that for heat without light?

Asks for help and then sasses because he doesn't get the response he wants. Besides, who even needs more than a fullstack? I find these days, a 2 x 12 cab is too big for what I do.

I dont think he was being a ********, he asked a question, how would he hook up four cabs, he did not ask people if they thought it was a good idea or not. If anything fluff191 put in his two cents when not asked too, not that I have anything against you fluff191, just saying the original poster had a right to come back and type his response.

Also using four 16 ohm cabs in parallel with the 4 ohm output would put no further stress on tubes then plugging into one 4 ohm cab and just a very slight more amount of stress then plugging into one 8 ohm cabinet.

A amp does not see how many cabinets you have, it see the impedence, it doesnt care of it is blaring 150 watts into one 4 ohm cabinet or 4 16ohm cabinets in parallel for a 4 ohm load.

So you ask why he might want 4 cabinets, maybe he doesnt like speaker distortion, maybe he likes to place two in front and two in back and stand in the middle and have a surround sound. I myself prefer two cabinets when playing loud, lets me crank the amp and disburse the music better.

To the original poster, since the amp only has two 4 ohm taps, you would have to get a parallel splitter box of some sort or make a special cable. BUt in a nut shell running four 16ohm cabinets in parallel will give you a 4 Ohm load.

Well said

The answer to your question is yes. But you'll need a parallel splitter box, Mesa Boogie will have this.

Good luck and have fun.
