I'm new here, so "Hello!"

I just purchased a used 2 channel Dual Rectifier, most likely rev G with a serial number in the 4000s and a small Mesa badge on the front. When I received the head I was surprised to find that it was covered in a black Fender-esque tolex as opposed to the typical black Mesa tolex (like my previous 2 channel Dual Rec). Did Mesa ever do this as an option or does this sound like it's been re-tolexed? It still has the leather corner covers. Also, there's no seam anywhere on the tolex. Is it possible to seamlessly wrap a head cab in tolex? I'm probably going to redo it in the typical Mesa tolex, but I have no idea how to do it without any overlapping anywhere on the head.

Thanks in advance.

my 94 tverb has a different type of tolex than all of my previous rectos and stilettos. has leather corners too. the seam would be on the bottom. must be a really good job.

I believe the tolex my Dual Rec has is the Black Bronco tolex. Can anyone confirm whether or not Mesa ever put this on a Dual Rec?

droptrd,

What kind of tolex is on your tverb? Is it like the Fender tolex?
I dont know what its called but its not the black taurus they normally use. Its very smooth. Doesnt have the grain lines in it like the taurus does.

Is the tolex very smooth?

Does the amp have a serial or parallel FX loop?

(The easiest way to tell is by the number of knobs in the loop... single send = serial, send + mix = parallel)

I may be wrong but didn't Mesa use leather on some of the earlier Rec's?

Revision C though F... and I believe it's always been available as a special order.

The small Mesa logo usually indicates an early revision, with the large logo being on the Gs.... however there was some crossover... I just can't remember which way it was (Fs with large, or Gs with small), nor the serial number where the change in revision happened. The type of FX loop is an obvious giveaway however.

Will try to get some pics of my amp up tomorrow. In the meantime, I was looking through the classifieds earlier today, and saw that this amp has the same tolex as mine. Of course, its serial number is 4000+ earlier than mine.

The FX Loop is not a firm indicator when talking about amps with serials less than 5k. Some Revision G's came stock with serial loops as late as late '94 to '95. There are some Revision G's that will look visually identical to Revision C-F, including having serial loops.
