So we ended up having to move to a new spot to do guitar tracks for our album due to terrible wiring in the building we were in. I just spent a few hours dialing in tones and here's what we're going to go with. Mind you these are just quick scratch tracks and it's not mixed, but I'm pretty happy with the tone.

Thanks! The mix is pretty thin because...well it's not mixed yet, but I think the guitars are going to sound pretty sick. I'm excited.

That's some sick stuff. Love the chuggy riffs. Guess that answers my question about the Roadster getting that kind of tone. How similar is the recorded tone to what you were hearing in the room ? Thats my biggest problem with my mark IV is what I hear in the room is great but my recorded tone is just ok. I need to work on getting a better recorded tone and I dont have much to work with.

I kind of switched gears halfway through recording and changed the tone. I was using the tube rectifiers in EL34 mode at first, but I love the sound of the silicon diodes so much I flipped the switch, changed the settings a bit, and went for it.


What I ended up using was

Bold, Silicon Diodes

Presence 9 o'clock

Bass 12 o'clock

Mids 9 o'clock

Treble almost maxed out

Gain 12 o'clock

and then boosted with a Maxon OD808.

Keep in mind that I was using a REALLY dark sounding guitar so these may not work for you, but here's a scratch with the new settings.

Hey mate, I really like your sound. I just tried your settings on my dual rectifier to see how they would sound. The only diference is that I had mind set to spongy and vacum tubes. It sounded really good, granted I have only tried it at low volumes. The maxon od808's are a useful tool.

sounds awesome. I like these clips you put up. The tone in the most recent clip to me sounds best although I do like the tone in the others.

IMO, I think there is a little too much high end sizzle on the cymbals though.

There definitely is. My band is in the middle of tracking a CD and these are unmixed quick snippets of some of the songs. The cymbals will sound a lot better after they're tweaked.
