Well, i would tell anyone that these "extended warranties" are a waste of $$$.. you wont use them.

but, i start thinking about my specific case...

vintage mesa amp.

work of art.

expensive as hell.

So im guessing the original warranty has long passed. I have seen that lots of bad stuff can happen and i could get stuck with a huge repair bill should something "not be right"...

The amp looks in excellent condition, and appears to be well taken care of, and the manager said it was all checked out. and works well. Havent had a chance to check the serial number and see if theres any history here...

i dont believe sales people. ever. they say what you want to hear, not the truth. they couldnt sell crap if they told the truth.. the sales guy was just so nice when i called. of course he was, he wants to sell me something...

now, they didnt even mention the extended warranty to me.. they ususally press me into "taking it" and make me feel like i am an idiot for saying "no, my new distortion pedal doesnt need your extended warranty"...they did not even once mention it...

that alone makes me think, i should get it..

so, im thinking, its worth the extra $ to pony up and get an extended 2 year warranty just in case. I dont want to have to pay for something that is a pre-existing problem that rears its head after the 30day return/warranty is up...

am i thinking correct? what do y'll think?

(there are also other things i get witht he "extended warranty" such as the 30day return policy goes to 60 days with the extended warranty, so i get an extra 30 days to try it. and manager at the company tech line said this "extended" warranty will cover pretty much everything except an act of God or theft. We both agreed that it being a Boogie (now without a warranty), it might well be worth spending the extra cash considering its from the mid 80's. Been around the block..

im gonna start looking for mesa repair horror stories... i bet theres quite a few p[eople who got "vintage" amps that ended up spending more than they paid on the amp to have it repaired...

thanks,

Skip it. You'd probably never get anywhere near your money's worth. Just take good care of it and establish a relationship with a reputable shop you trust. My MkIII has had some work over the years, but then again, it's nearly 30 years old and I've had it for over 15 yrs (longest I've ever owned any amp). The work has always been needed 3+ yrs apart, just enough for any warranty to run out.....

Yep that's what I was thinking but then again.... Might be worth it if something happens...

The tubes are shot so I'm trying to get them to replace them as they are REALLY old and really effecting the tonal quality of the amp... It haut sounds off and when I started really trying to get it dialed in it just sounds awful... Some digging and I find out all the tubes are most likely DOA and should have been part of "the service"'they claimed was done to bring the amp up to "playable condition"

I emailed them my complaints and I am still waiting to jean back from someone...
Seems like this amp was not serviced as stated do fingers crossed the new tubes will be sent to me
On the house... That's fair I think considering they told me it had been properly serviced and had the tubes replaced...
Someone not getting their facts right...

Funny this is the best amp I have ever owned... I heard a Hot rodded jcm800 1/2 stack that sounded really loud and amazingly crunchy and this little boogie blew it away Not even a close match...

Loving the crunchiness and clarity... Simply amazing and hands down the best amp I have owned.

Many and much Thanks to Randy and MB

:)

I picked the name "MkIII Renegade" because you become somewhat of an outlaw if you say it is your favorite Boogie, but it's Lead channel is second to none as far as I'm concerned, and I also have a great MKIV. I basically had Mike B. do a restoration of my amp of anything that was deficient, and while he was at it, had him do the R2 and Reverb mods.

No regrests, THESE AMPS ARE WORTH IT!! The first day I brought my MKIII home, I felt like I had already grown as a player. My confidence skyrocketed because I heard these god-like tones coming out of the cab that I hadn't experienced before. I had a JCM800 half stack in high school, and it was great, but nothing has ever inspired me like the MKIII. The only comparable amp (for obvious reason) has been the MKIV. The Mark DNA is my sound. 8)

I wouldn't worry about a warranty. I have a black dot and a blue stripe and have yet to have any problems that I couldn't fix with tubes. I have had the black dot for 5 years and the blue for about a year now.
