If it does have "Black Widows" then speakers should be your first concern. If they are the stock C90 "Black Shadows" then I would still change them first because mine sounded loads better with the V30's. However like others have said the tubes could be dead so changing them won't hurt anything...

Well here is my Heartbreaker. The preamps look different from the modern pre amps. Just looks like the modern ones have a specific part to make assembly easier, not better or worse. Power tubes are 100% chassis mounted and so is everything else.

I did it on a Marshall cab and I liked it. I think the 75's are good speakers.

Cables go to the reverb tank, which i think is mounted on the top of your heads cab inside. Not really sure, I've never seen one.

I don't like C90's but the open back is the way to go. If it were me I would get the recto cab then make a back panel.

I suggest you plug into that guys amp at his rehersal space before you drop that kinda cash. His sound might be different from yours for a variety of factors. He will probably be happy to show off his amp.

Blue angel is more of a class A sound. Not much in the Mesa line gonna sound like the vibro king, (or be handwired) A silverface Super might be a good buy if you cannot afford the VK.
