Any 2010 namm rumors that have merit

The TransAtlantic. EL84 output, small chassis, minimal features, under $1000. Dunno if it will debut at Winter or Summer NAMM, but it's coming.

Have you heard of this cab, 6" speakers?

Sounds like the Mesa 4812, made for just a few years in the early 90s. One Celestion V30 surrounded by four Celestion Vintage 8s. *Great* sounding cab, but too unorthodox a configuration to ever catch on.

New flagship Mesa bass amp on the way

In the meantime, the Bass 400+ enters its final production run: http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Bass_Amps/Bass_400_/bass_400_.html

    New Mesa amp rumor!!

Aside from the Transatlantic, other names recently added to Mesa's list of registered trademarks: Viceroy Badlander Artisan

Retubing Nomad w/ Winged C 6L6 - Rating Help Please????

Those ratings are likely the plate current and transconductance readings as measured in your vendor's tube tester. The tubes will most certainly be seeing different plate and bias voltages in the Nomad, so there is no way of knowing for sure if the tubes fall within an appropriate bias range...

    Screw the tube kits....

Uhh, no. When Boogie decides to change to a new 12AX7, they may be left with thousands of the previously used tube on the shelves. Mesa grades all preamp tubes as part of the screening process -- the few that are most resistant to microphony and have a low noise floor qualify as SPAX7's, the...

    New Mesa amp rumor!!

I can't confirm the Mark V rumor, but I do know that Mesa has been developing a new flagship all-tube bass amplifier based on a 6550/KT88 platform. One design that has been on the back-burner for years is the Transatlantic, allegedly Boogie's take on the Vox AC30.

Does anyone know about Mesa 440 EL34/6CA7's?

The STR-440 EL34 was indeed Chinese. Mesa began using it when their supply of Sylvania 6CA7s (aka STR-416s) was finally depleted.

How do I know which tube goes in V5?

This post is so spot-on it bears repeating anytime the question of matched phase inverters comes up.

    Sovtek tubes

In my experience, the Sovtek 5881/5881WXT breaks up a bit earlier than a true 6L6GC (like the STR440.) It also sounds slightly darker in most applications.

More gain from a LoneStar Classic via new tubes?

I will concur that the Tung-Sol 12AX7 is highest in gain among current production 12XA7s. Latest word from Petaluma is that Boogie will be switching back to a Russian 12AX7 (after a brief fling with Shuguangs) and that this tube is slightly higher in gain that both the Shuguang and earlier 12AX7EH.

    Eurotubes High Gain OPtion

Each of the current tube manufacturers, without exception, have some real dogs in their respective product lines. Be very skeptical of any dealer who says a particular brand is can't-miss across the board.

    Coke Bottles

Nothing on Mesa's site explains any potential sonic differences between the Chinese "Coke bottle" 5U4G and the Russian 5U4BG. That's because there are none. Though your anecdotal evidence may suggest otherwise, again, the rectifier tube is not part of the signal path. Both types share the...

    6l6GB

The Sovtek 6L6GB is most likely what is now branded as the 5881WXT. Sovtek also manufactures a wafer-based 5881 that is otherwise identical to the full based 6L6GB/5881WXT. The wafer based version is rebranded by Mesa as their STR-425.

    Opinions on KT66 tubes

The Sovtek KT66 is simply the guts of a Sovtek 6L6WXT+ in an ST shaped enclosure. Expect the same performance as the Mesa STR-430.

New Rectifier Tubes from Eurotube (GZ34) tone report

Know what will really reduce sag and tighten things up? Using the solid state rectifier setting. :P Honestly, the voltage drop created by a GZ34/5AR4 in a Mesa is insignificant; I doubt anyone could detect a difference in response in a blind A-B test between a SS rectifier and a GZ34 in...
