    Mesa Engineering Varsity Jacket

Hey gang Couldn't find a more appropriate location to post this, so I hope it's OK to list this here. Moderators: Mesa Accessories? :?: Anyway, here's a very cool American made Wool/Suede Mesa Engineering varsity style jacket. The size is large. Sad to say my Mesa stuff is long gone, so it's...

    Doug's Tubes evaluation

Newysurfer - Didn't mean to bypass your question before. Just had to think about how best to respond. Here goes... First, the very nature of tube amps will always involve some degree of Hum, Hiss or White Noise. Some companies handle these better than others. Mesa by standard happens to be one...

Express 5:25 1x12 Anyone tried replacing the V30?

Many thanks to Soundchaser59... you sure bring a lot of value to this dialog. I did find this video clip showing some great real time comparisons of some of the mentioned speakers. I really like the apples to apples way this shootout was constructed. If not for something like this, a newbie...

    Doug's Tubes evaluation

I just got a set from Doug's. Seems the Express's four modes is a common challenge for most of us to tame. Hopefully, these observations can help others. First, I do think it's worthwhile to review the Tube Task Chart to get an appreciation of each positions purpose. The goal being to...

Balanced Triodes: Value add or Holy Water

OK... Read previous posts here and most seem to "poo poo" this notion since an amp (by definition) is not a HiFi circuit in order to benefit from this. I guess what concerns me would be not taking advantage of Mesa's ingenious cascading circuitry. I agree that V1 - V3 offers no real benefit...

    Freakin' 5:50 handle..DAH!

Hey Don - All we're discussing is the feable quality of the carry handle and best means to resolve the issue. Other than this, I expect we would all marvel at Mesa's build quality. I just rec'd the alternative replacement today and clearly there is a quality difference. By comparison, Mesa's...

    Freakin' 5:50 handle..DAH!

I would have no doubt Mesa would honor a replacement since they have such an excellent support team. I guess it's worth it to me to look into another replacement over re-installing one destined to fail. Saw this on ebay which I suspect the Express handle would be the same. :(...

    Freakin' 5:50 handle..DAH!

You know, we shouldn't take offense to Soundchaser59's comment. If you view say the Mark V or Heartbreaker handle with other Mesa offerings. I think all that was being said was he pointing out the difference. I always liked Boogies for their portable power. That said, I still don't mind upgrading.

    Freakin' 5:50 handle..DAH!

MrMark III - Thanks for the link... I'm still new to these since I just got my Express in stellar shape. So, no direct handle concerns to speak of. But for > $5 with shipping, I ordered a replacement anyway. I'll compare the two. (Since Fenders are usually so heavy, gotta believe the...

    Tube prescription

OK... I dug more in this and (pleasantly) stumbled on the following: I noticed some posts where folks were installling AT7's in either V4 or V5 and  Hmmmm. I had a Gold Pin and a regular 12AT7 in my stash... I placed the GP in V4. Wow! Next, I loosely reviewed Doug's...

    Multiple speaker connections

Perhaps this is a big No No, but is it OK to simultaniously patch a 8 ohm speaker as well as a 4 ohm cabinet? Since each would have it's own cable and individual terminations. i.e. 8 ohm patch to a C90 and a 4 ohm to a 4 ohm in of a 2x12. I viewed Mesa's Rectifier manuals for safe and unsafe...

    Tube prescription

Well... I pulled the trigger on scoring a 5:50 1X12  I must say (as others have commented) the cleans are nothing less than astounding. Crunch, Blues and even Burn offer something else to be reckoned with. In fact, my Parker's piezo on the clean is remarkably impressive. And that's...

    Express 1X12 Combo weight

Thanks Don, That's kinda what I figured. BTW - Do you find it reasonable enough to tote around?

    Express 1X12 Combo weight

Hey gang - What's the actual weight of the 1X12 combo? I'm guessing 55 lbs or so. I've alway been partial to head & cabs, but I'm considering this type of setup if it's light enough. Looked on the Boogie site, but weight is still listed as TBD. :? Thanks

    2 X 12 Cabinet

Anyone here tried the 5 50 with a GB G Flex? Seems like a wierd combination, but I was real surprised with the results.

    BIAS mod to an Express?

a2dconverter - Nice work! The good news is it can be done. Sadly it may require more modding than I was originally thinking. I guess the first question would be whether a "tunable" bias mod would really justify the expense. I mean, as compared to just purchasing some adjusted/metered Power...

    BIAS mod to an Express?

I found this comment on the HC forum. Is this true? "you CAN bias a Mesa/Boogie. They have it covered up on the board. According to my amp tech, they put some kind of plastic coating or something over the bias pot. So you have to go in and find it, remove the cover and you're good to go." I'd...
