    Mark III blue/red stripe questions

If your Mk III blue stripe has 2 power tubes, then it is most likely a 60 watt amp. And, NO don't run EL34 in place of the 6L6's in the blue stripe I take it that the red stripe has 4 power tubes. If the red stripe is a Simul-Class model, then it is 75 watts with the switch in the...

    16 Ohm cab

Yes it is safe. The 8 ohm output on your amp needs at least 8 ohms of resistance. So if you have more resistance the amp is safe, but you will probably have to turn the volume up a little more than if you had an 8 ohm cabinet.

Long had? Short head? Wide head? Fat head?

The heads came in shells, not rackmount, though MKIV's could be ordered as rackmount, I have never heard that MKIII could be ordered as such. Someone fill in here. I don't know about the MK III coming from the factory as a rackmount head. But I do have a rackmount kit from Mesa for my MK III...

    mark IV poweramp tube question

Nice to know that. I'll have to check that out Some years ago when I used some Groove Tubes in my MK III they sounded like total crap!! I think I still have the tubes some where. I will look at the rating numbers and see what they are.

need advice from mark iii and iv users

Personally I like the III better than the IV. There is no doubt that the IV offers a little more versatility, but is more complicated. The III has some issues with balancing all 3 channels. But I figured out how to make it work for me. And then I did the volume 2 mod and made it even better as 3...

Need Advice Thinking of trading Mark IV for Roadster!?

You said the only thing that matters. "Personal preferences". The ultimate thing to do would be to keep both for a while and really make sure you like the Roadster better, before selling the Mark IV.

Will Mark V Drive Down the prices of Mark I, II, III and IV?

I could see where if the Mk V is so expensive, that it could actually increase the value of the used Mk I, II, III market. Time will tell.

    Mark IV preamp tube replacement

There is a great deal of subjectivity here. Two seemingly identical tubes can sound different. In addition, take a tube out of one Mk IV and it may or probably will sound different in another Mk IV. Experiment and find what works best for your amp and your ear!

    Mesa's.... no articulation

+1000 Mesa's typically have more articulation than anything, but the best boutique amps made!

there's one amp I'll never sell

I'm always looking for something better. But I always go back to the MK III.

So I must be the luckiest guy in the world...

You have two guys giving you conflicting information. But I'll second what Tfunk said. The speakers provides resistance, which the amp needs. So you can always run more resistance. Just don't run less.

    Mark III r2

I've got a red stripe Simul-class and I love R2. I have to admit that it takes a little extra dexterity to cope with a bit of a volume difference when going between R1 and R2 (I have to be quick and accurate with the guitar's volume knob as I step on the R1/R2 switch). I am going to try the R2...

Love affair with Boogie is over

I remember seeing George Lynch play with what appeared to be a wall of Marshalls. I got backstage and saw a whole bunch of Soldano amps. The Marshalls heads were actually gutted and were on stage purely for looks,... actually endorsement money!! So you can't always believe what you see.

Love affair with Boogie is over

I've had a MKIII since 1988. The amp keeps growing on me. Still to this day I am not 100% satisfied with the amp. So, I 've had several other quality amps since 1988. And currently I own a Suhr Badger that kicks major butt. But in the end I always go back to the MKIII. I happen to like the...

    what mesa is this?

Your on the right path. Best guess is a 60watt Mk II, only 2 power tubes. But I can't tell what version. Ask the seller for a serial number, which will help in identifying which version. The guy obviously doesn't that much about Mesa/Boogie, based on his "built after Mesa bought Boogie" comment

    Studio 22

That tube you were asking about, SPAX7, is just a Mesa part number they put on "high performance" 12AX7's. They recommend these tubes for the V1 position on my Mark III, and probably other amps as well. In reality the SPAX7 is just a high quality 12AX7.
