I have two mark III's.

one is a 1988 blue stripe 50 watt head i believe.

the other is a 1986 red stripe 100 watt simul-class model i believe.

i use the red stripe pretty much for everything, recording and live shows. I have no idea what the differences are other than the obvious ones, one being 50 watts and the other 100. i am still learning about them and was wondering if anyone had any insight or tips about them. i was also curiosu if i could put EL34s in the 50 watt blue stripe instead of 6l6s.

If your Mk III blue stripe has 2 power tubes, then it is most likely a 60 watt amp.

And, NO don't run EL34 in place of the 6L6's in the blue stripe

I take it that the red stripe has 4 power tubes. If the red stripe is a Simul-Class model, then it is 75 watts with the switch in the "Simul-Class" position, and 15 watts with the switch in the "class A" position. Otherwise, the switch position determines whether the power output is 60 watts or 100 watts in non Simul-Class amps.

Simul-Class amps usually run EL 34's in the 2 outer power amp tube positions and 6L6's in the inner positions.
