Are MK V Combo and Head Voiced the Same?

I'm sure it's a killer setup once all broken in when everything is up to specs. I do like the overall looks of the combo with matching cabinet.

Are MK V Combo and Head Voiced the Same?

Its the same amp so if you use it with an exactly identical speaker the difference will come from the different box geometry. You probably can get darn close with an appropriate open 1x12" cab. The thread has drifted somewhat to discuss the other issues concerning other pros and cons of onwning...

Are MK V Combo and Head Voiced the Same?

Pretty sure. I weigthed the thing myself. In addition it compares to my 2x12 THD cab which is 49 lbs on the specs sheet. I previously returned the Mk V combo that I weighted at 68 lbs on the same scale. Both times I had the amp in my arms. The combo which was still ligther than a fender twin at...

    Switching channels

The RJM ampgizmo looks interesting but that special cable you can by from them, does it replace the footswitch entirely or it connects to the 4x 1/4" connectors at the back of the V?

Are MK V Combo and Head Voiced the Same?

I initially went for the combo since it was the only thing siting on the floor begging me to bring it home. Two out of 4 power tubes and the rectifier tube were functionnal but rattling. I changed them all at no cost it helped a lot but was still there nothing else was rattling. Extremely good...

Silent recording with Mark V? (Like the Mark IV option?)

I can confirm that the FX loop is not functionnal when pulling the SOLO knob. Just tried it.

Silent recording with Mark V? (Like the Mark IV option?)

ThatDawnSG, you raise a good point. Myself I run my home setup differently than I use it at a gig. I place my MarkV Head in my home setup effect loop (I still apply the delays, and mod type effects after the MkV, the wah and other stuff before the MkV). I tried to understand the MkV schematics...

Silent recording with Mark V? (Like the Mark IV option?)

I use this all the time. On the Mark V the pulling on the SOLO knob will send the signal at the back near the footwich cable its labelled TUNER. I use a speaker emulator and I think the result is quite decent. There was a recent post from someone who mentionned that he could not get as good a...

Mark V combo and 2x12 extension cab

I think the numbers in the previous post is a bit off. I weighted the combo at 68 lbs which I returned 2 months ago to get a head at 45 lbs. I use it with a THD 2x12" which itself is 49 lbs. After 2 weeks of lugging the combo around in stairs and all, and the fact that my combo had developped...

I am discovering that there is some magic in Mark I mode

After reading the previous posts I looked at it with a fresh mindset. I did start to enjoy the Mark I setting at relatively low volume and I swore that it sounded fantastic. At practice/gig level it turned out to be ... NOT! It did sound rounder and smoother than the other modes but I also had...

Mark V voicing and head dimensions

I weighted my head at 45 lbs a while back.

    Mark V Effects Loop...

Mine is at noon as well. I run a Boss GT-10 in the loop with its own master around noon.

    Circuit diagram

Excuse my ignorance on Mark electonics history but what are LDRs? Lethal Dose of Radiation? I spent a fun time surveying the different schematics, IV, V and IIC+withGEQ but could not find a IIC+nonGEQ schematics if only to read the famous capacitor value.

footswitch, all lights on when you power up?

I noticed that with my combo in the early days. I swapped it for a head and now all ligths are off when I power it. Strange.

    Mark V vs. Mark IV

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you use the THD HotPlate for silent recording you would still need speaker emulation. On the other hand you could mike the MkV at low volume but at such a large attenuation you may be lossing a lot of low end. The backing track was the instrumental version of...

    Mark V vs. Mark IV

Here is a quick take when I was debugging my recording setup. Nothing to write home about really but give an idea of the sound recorded using the MUTE output. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8062468 Note: Lead guitar is Mk V Channel 3 can't remember the mode, Backing track is ... you...

    Mark V vs. Mark IV

Exactly! The signal is then route at the back (MUTE). I have been using this for quite a while now and I am very happy with the results. You'll still need some speaker emulation to process this signal. I'm using the cheap Berhinger Ultra-G GI100 box (75$) . Of course you won't get power amps...

    Mark V with EL84's?????? Help

Well, there's the THD yellowjacket that allows you to use EL-84 at a reduced power output. Work great with my UniValve but there is only one power tube in that case. My real question is : if you buy a matched set of EL-84 will they remained matched using yellowjacket adaptors? I'm not tube guru...

Interesting find! That is precisely the kind of thing we should be sharing. Thanks for taking the time to drop us a line.
