What power amp to with a studio pre?

I second the 2:100. You can pull two tubes from each side to power it down to 50 watts per channel, essentially giving you a 2:50. However, the 2:100 has the Modern mode, which is THE Recto sound. The sound just wraps around you and swallows you whole.

    What to buy??????????

The 2:100 has more bass and aggression, as it is the actual power section of the Recto series. The 2:90 is simul-class and is the power section of the Mark Series. I own a 2:100, and the description of the 2:100 vs. the 2:90 on Mesa's site sums up the differences very accurately...

    Wicker Grill vs. Cloth

gts is making a head cab and matching thiele for my Mark III, and I was wondering if there would be much of a sonic difference between the wicker grill and cloth grill when recording. I use a Gibson GA30RVS with the gold metal grills, and the grills really cut your tone when recording. Lots of...

For low volumes, Mark III or Mark IV

New Mark III Red Stripe owner here. Check my profile for recent posts with pics. I'm getting excellent high gain tones at very low apartment levels. I read the manual, and the instructions on adjusting the levels to taste is the key to good tone at low volume.

So on the Triaxis, is LD2 Red really the Rect Solo head mode

Definitely get whatever Doug says. I purchased the JJ high gain setup from eurotubes.com.

    Modding a 2:90

Sell your 2:90 on ebay, and buy a 2:100 on ebay to replace it. The swap between 6L6s and EL34s is painless with the 2:100. It's a different sounding amp. It has more bottom and it can be more aggressive when dialed in.

Can I buy a new TriAxis online?

    Delete..

This might sound silly, but check the Triaxis power switch to make sure it's not in the middle. Mine was accidentally bumped into the middle position, producing an anemic low volume sound. Pushing it to the On position 'fixed' it.

    The Mark III Porn Thread!

Just fired it up for the first time last night. Lovin' it! BIG QUESTION: What tubes should I use in the outter sockets for the best British pop tones? I've played Mark IIIs before that had a really nice chime to them in the 15 watt position. I stuck some old but strong 7581s in the outter...

    Vented cab & Recto

The Freda and Port City designs include a 45 degree dadoed board at the top that reflects the sound downward, which hits another board that in turn shoots the sound out through the vent. http://www.fredacabs.com/ourdesign.cfm http://portcityamps.com/wave2OS.html

    Vented cab & Recto

Freda Cabs has this blurb at the bottom of their Design page. The book they refer to is only about $20 or so. Check it out: Freda Cabs incorporate ideas described by Kevin O'Connor in his book "London Power: DIY Speaker Cabinets for Musical Instrument Applications". For more information contact...

    V-Twin ??

Lots of folks complain about the lower gain from the Guitar Amp outpout of the V Twin. Don't listen to them. Just use the Power Amp output and you'll get way more gain. With that said, it doesn't really do the Recto sound of the Trem-O-Verb, but it definitely has the cleans.

    Anyone ever compared a Triaxis using a 2:90 and a 2:100?

Just copied this out of the 2:100 user guide, page 2: NOTE: BEFORE YOU MOUNT THE 2:100 IN YOUR RACK! This is an extremely aggressive and powerful amplifier intended for use with one of the above mentioned MESA preamplifiers in large venues. If after trying it you feel you may have chosen more...

    Anyone ever compared a Triaxis using a 2:90 and a 2:100?

This will help. Look at the HC scores for... The 2:90 http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Mesa%2FBoogie/Stereo+Simul+2%3A+90/10/1 and then the 2:100 http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Mesa%2FBoogie/Stereo+2%3AOne+Hundred+Power+Amp/10/1 I...

So on the Triaxis, is LD2 Red really the Rect Solo head mode

I've only noodled with my TA in my apartment, but I know that a good ol' Boss GE-7 equalizer will get you closer to Recto territory very nicely if you keep the TA's Dynamic Voice set to 0. I've gigged with a Trem-O-Verb quite a bit and jammed in the apartment at low volumes with it. Had to sell...

Boss Ge-7 + Dynamic Voice; Tube Screamer?

Take out the Dynamic Voice. The GE-7 will do what the Dynamic Voice does, only better. Additionally, all that input may might clip the Dynamic Voice in a not so good kind of way. I haven't heard it with my own ears, but that's what the manual says.
