Definitely not thrash tight. I'd say Godsmack/ lacuna coil/ killswitch engage/ as i lay dying/ slipknot/ my chemical romance/ saosin tight.

Basically, i want it to sound huge and raw when open chording but whenever a part follows that requires palm muting it shouldn't sound flabby. But definitely not thrash tight - i use other amps for that kind of parts. In most thrash albums anyway i would describe the sound as tight, scooped and in most cases trebly. It sounds aggressive but not huge. I don't care for one-string fast palm muting but rather slower full 5th chord mutes. Like slipknot - my plague http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bG4C71bgMg . That is the heaviest sound i would want from a rec (with a boost certainly). A lighter one that i really like is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n0Zi_LDA6I .

2 Channel TR or DR will do that quite nicely... if you can though get a Mills Acoustics cab. Trust me you'd be doing yourself a favor.

I am sure you are right about the Mills cabs. I would love to try/own one but the main problem about that is there is only one dealer in Europe (in the uk which is already far from Greece) and the cost for a 4x12 afterburner reaches around 1500 euros. Same goes for Vader cabs though they have more dealers in Europe. A cab that has been intriguing me for quite some time though i haven't been able to try yet is the Randall RS125XL. It is not very expensive really, i can find it for 750 euros and what i like about it in the sheets is that it has 2 x 12 Vintage 30's and 1x15 Eminence Legend. I am surprised i can't find enough reviews or threads about it. Forgot to say i am a big dimebag fan and i have a warhead x2 sitting around here. That thing has ridiculously tight and huge bottom end. But overall it is a thrash amp and beyond the mid frequencies you can tell it is ss. But it would be nice to mix it with tube amps. Anyway, the 2x12 i have definitely can't handle the massive chunky low end. Randall suggests running this on a 4x12 and a 2x15 cabs (like dime). So, this is another reason i would like to try the randall. What do you think?

randall 4x12 xl cabs with the vin30`s are underrated. i never heard one with 2x12`s & 1x15, but the 4x12xl i had for a while had some pretty brutal low end. cab construction was similar to a mesa traditional.

It's this one http://www.musik-produktiv.de/randall-usa-rs125xl-gerade.aspx . I like the mesa cabs so if they are on par as far as construction is concerned then i think it would be worth it since i really want to try the 15". I am curious how it sounds recorded as well.

agreed... but as long as we're talking the higher end of their line. I've heard the one with two 12s and the 15 and it sounds pretty awesome.

Yes that is their top of the line cab. There is also one with 2x12 Eminence Legends and 1x15 Eminence Legend which costs i think 200 bucks less but i like the v30's so i am going for the other. How did you like it? Tight big bottom end? I suppose it will handle drop tunings well right?

Pretty much on par with Mesa cabs in terms of quality. The tone was tight and sounded very much like a Mesa cab. I still like Mesa cabs better but the Randalls can be close.

If your in europe i would strongly suggest looking into an ENGL cab or Bogner Uberkab. I've heard ENGLs are pretty cheap when compared to how much we in the states pay for them and their cabs are very high quality ans sound pretty awesome. They are super tight and have a massive low end. The Bogner Uberkab is right up there on my list with the Mills Cab and VHT Cabs

I don't know how much they cost in the us but the cheapest engl 4x12 with celestion v60's goes for 638 euros while one with v30's costs 935 euros. I have a powerball but i have heard mixed things about engl cabs. some say that the powerball sounds shrill and muddy through the engl cabs and it definitely sounds worse than through a mesa cab. and they are expensive enough. the randall sits right in the middle as far as cost is concerned - 799 euros last time i checked. and i am so intrigued by the 15". if i am not wrong, uberkabs are hard to find in europe

The ENGL cabs are top notch and the v30 version to me sound like a mix in character between a Mesa Recto cab and a VHT FB. At the end of the day though whether its a Mesa, VHT, ENGL, Bogner or Randall, its a step up from what you have now.... just dont let price necassarily make the decision. I've learned trying to save money sometimes in the end can cost you more... if you can try out as many cabs as you can get your hands on.
