What combo should I get? used Mark III or F series?

I am looking to spend about $800 for a tube combo, and I could get one of the above. I play primarily funk and r&b in band scenarios, but I do like to get into some classic metal as well. I love the older Petrucci lead sound and could probably get the closest within my budget with the Mark III. I need a good channel switching amp. Which would you think to be more versatile? Please let me know of any differences which may impact my decision.
