Mine has a quad of green 6L6. Curious to see what others got- if they are using certain colors, or if it's whatever is available.

On the preamp side my other Mesas have always loved sticking a Tung-Sol in V1, but since this is brand new / under warranty I'll probably hold off on trying for a while.

Mine also came with greens. Even my V came with greens.
I've bought a few sets of yellows, can't tell a difference.

And by the way; Welcome! And congrats on the new amp! I hope you like it as much as I do :p

RED tubes in mine.

Not to change topic but....My owner's manual has "EXPORT" stamped on the cover. First time I've seen this. Anybody have this?

My manual isn't stamped at all. Might be worth asking them just in case you got one spec'd for a foreign power supply, etc.?

my jp-2c (received it today! awesome amp) came with red. all it means is that these are matched within tolerances to be considered a 'match' with other 'red' labeled tubes. i've never heard a difference between red/grey/yellow/green etc. as long as they match, you're good. (that said, i've been using sed winged c's for the last 7 years... it's been a while since i've used standard mesa's).

story is here:

as for the 'stamped' manuals; every mesa amp/preamp i've bought here in europe, had 'export' stamped on the manual.

FWIW: I'm in the U.S. Apparently an "export" manual was accidentally put in with my amp...according to Mesa tech support.

I know what the colors mean, and how they set things up.

The Mesas I've had in the past usually bias in the 30-40% range (obviously fixed), which is very cold. If I could determine that I have a certain color, and the bias is X, if I wanted to warm it up *a little* (within their acceptable range) I could perhaps get a color code that's a little farther up the scale.

Something like this?

places like https://www.tubeampdoctor.com/ and https://www.tubedepot.com/ can help if you tell them what you're looking for. it's too bad SED tubes are NOS these days, since the russian factory stopped producing them a couple of years ago; sed winged c 6l6gc's are awesome.

Red are the coolest........White are the hottest (haven't seen them in years...) is the acceptable range for Mesa. Which is a wide range if each color code can have a 10% variance.

Be careful as changing tubes out and using a different company other than mesa can void the warranty guys...
If you send mesa the amp back due to some type of problem and they see that you might be out of luck.

So I was talking to Mike B. today about my Mark III Simul-Class which had red tubes that only biased out around 15%, and he said that he wouldn't go any hotter than grey in that setup or the tubes may not live as long. I've read elsewhere that this is a SimulClass thing, but worth a mention. The reds in that amp really felt cold to me so I was looking to step up the bias some.
