Hi gang, just got a Mark V and it looks like it took a hit in shipping. The amp sounds great but has the following issues:
  • No Reverb on channel 2
  • No FX on channel 2
  • Channel 1 tweed mode is WAY louder than the other 2 modes and has a ton of HISSSSS
I've currently got the loop switch set to All On, although I tried it individually and with the footswitch selected. Reverb level is at noon, as is the Loop Send. Any ideas what happened here, and more importantly, is there a fix? Admittedly it's a complex amp, but I build tube amps and run a Fractal in 4CM. I like to think I know my way around complex systems, but this could totally be pilot error. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Pics for context.

Bummer about that shipping deal. :(

Tweed mode has increased gain vs Fat / Clean, you may want to checkout this thread for details as to what you're hearing

Tweed Mode Hiss

Looks like you're on top of it AFA configuration loop, etc. Issue being only on Ch 2 kinda indicates it's not a simple user issue :( or footswitch.

So with the "No FX on Chan 2" does that mean there is no signal from FX Send Out? With the loop active but nothing in the Fx Send/Rtn is Ch 2 functional with all voicings?

Yeah, I do think the tweed mode is behaving normally. Just a little noisy above noon on the gain control.

SOLVED - Well, I noticed that the channel volume was down kind of low on that channel, where the other two channels were at noon. Turned it up to around 10:00 and there it was. I guess chalk it up to not knowing the amp very well. Weird taper on that pot, though.

All in all, the only thing wrong with the amp appears to be the tolex rip. I should be able to get reimbursed a little for that and fix it pretty well. Pretty impressive that an amp that heavy can get tossed around like that and keep on ticking.

Thanks for the response!

Oh cool... that's always a win when the fix is not involved. Enjoy, the V:90 is a great amp and BTW there's lots of excellent, informative past threads on this sub-forum.

I've had two Mark V 90W's... The Tweed mode is the noisiest mode on both of them. I've seen others mention this, too.
I returned the first one because of severe noise that wasn't remedied by new tubes.
The second one had volume loss, complete signal loss with FX loop engaged... several intermittent issues. A new set of preamp tubes solved it all and it has been fine since April. It's quite noisier than my new Badlander 50W, probably because of the more complex circuity.
I always put new tubes in as soon as I get a used amp. Then I get to meet the amp at its peak potential, and if there are still any issues, I know it needs to be returned (unless I feel like paying more to get it fixed). It's a good idea to have a spare set of tubes on-hand, anyway.
