yes..it has a rawness and definite flavor to it-the whole thing evokes a mood in me-some songs stick out, but it is like a mural..can listen without interruption and always hear something new-it is like being in the room with them-this made me understand the cold digital medium as well-it is so pristine and perfect, which serves a purpose-but the warmth of those old Mick Taylor era Stones gets me there...
-now, when its time to play, I dont exactly cop keef licks, but I totally dig the band and the stew they created...oooh...LET IT BLEED is groovy, too

...That's all fine but i was curious as to why is there little to no talk of Keith Richards/Rolling Stones as users of the Mark series amps?

My guess - because he has never been identified w/ Mesa amps. Sure, he might have some, he probably has one of everything. I doubt they ever ended up on a record. I think of a tweed Twin when I think of Keef.

thank you sundaypunch for being the one person to finally step-up and actually address one of the orignial questions on my post. i didn't intend for it to turn to into a public opinion forum re: the stones music /keef's drug use/or personal relationships. whatever, peeps.
anyway, the only reason i was curious in the first place cuz lots of side 2 of the Tattoo you LP sounds like it mite be Mark tones. Its a a great and underrated side of wax.

Looks like he did play them briefly at least. I still don't think many people think of Boogie when they think of Keef. Similar to the way that most don't associate Jeff Beck with hot pink Jackson Soloists.

Reading that article, it sounds like he used the Coliseum. 6-power tubes and huge wattage for maximum headroom. While Boogies are certainly capable of a big clean sound I would venture to guess that almost noone would identify it as a signature Boogie tone.

Maybe that also is why KR isn't thought of as a Boogie guy. Without the singing/high gain thing going on it sounds like just another clean amp.

i respectfully disagree. i think boogie mark series have a definite distinctive clean tone. i've A-B'd them with fenders and, while not all fenders/mesas are the same, i think i can tell the difference, especially when assuming that keith is playing a tele (deluxe?). who knows though? I could just be projecting...
Me, though, i use my MK II C+ for the clean channel ONLY. It is a great 'neutral' tone--i.e.--it is what you guitar sounds like, but better...

Doing some Stones / Boogie research and found this old thread.

#1 Keith Richards is the f%$#&^g balls.
#2 Keith is playing through a Boogie Mark I on this tour (I saw him Front row in Boston)
#3 Go see "Shine A Light" Keith makes lots of mistakes, but when he is on (Just My Imagination) then no one is better.

Enjoy the boogie groove.

Keef and Ronnie both used a lot of Mesa amps during the 80s and 90s. They seem to be back to the wall o' tweed approach these days but I' guarantee that a Mark can be found in their studio. Watch "Hail Hail Rock n Roll" and you'll see that Keith Richards can actually be quite disciplined when it comes to keeping a bnd moving in the right direction. He plays a hardwood Mark II throughout the whole movie. Ronnie Wood's a big fan of the Mark III Blue Stripe.

Here's some Keith on a Mark

I love the scene in Hail when Chuck Berry is busting Keiths balls about the intro to Carol. At first Keith is cool with it, learning from the master kind of thing, then he realizes Chucks an ******* and the look on Keith's face is priceless. Keith's playing is really great and very underrated.

I bought my III Blue because I love Ronnie's sound.

That's the first video in the post above. I was in the process of adding it when you posted. Another great thing is when Chuck wants to change keys in the middle of the song at the big gig just to screw the band up and Keef tells him no way.

If you check the link below, you will find very interesting info about Keith Richards' Mark I which is now owned by Ian.

Yeah, I just hate those sloppy, old fart, drugged-out guitarists... like Hendrix.
What a loser.
