I'm a fan of the V30 but not the upper mid spike so I bought a pair of Warehouse Guitar Speakers Veteran 30s to replace my Celestions in both my Recto 1x12s. I thought it would be a good idea to install one of the WGS speakers in one cab and keep the V30 in the other cab for best comparison. I recorded the difference using the same mic placement. I just marked where the cab was on the carpet and placed the other cab in the same spot. You can hear the difference in the speakers pretty well. The Veteran 30 is a little brighter and sounds more alive IMO. I normalized both clips but other than that they are untouched. The Veteran is actually slightly louder than the V30, but after normalization they are the same volume (of course).

Check out the clips here:

I like the Veteran 30 better! It's tighter and a little brighter with more character...

EDIT: Hey! This is my 2800th post!

Hmmm.... If I was going by the clips alone then I would still pick the Celestion V30. It sounded better in the recordings but thats just me. I'm sure in room it could've been a different story.

Certainly. Mic'd tones are always different than in the room. Also, the Veteran is not broken in like the V30 so it will continue to get warmer and sound more like the Celestion, but without the upper mid spike. I think the Veteran just has a more balanced tone.

Hey MM, cool find another Veteran lover :D . use'em on a stiletto custom 2x12 cab and not gonna look back. the WGS havea a way more warmer and rounded tone. im almost sure that Celestions are responsible for the harsh highs on stilettos.

Interesting. My Veterans are brighter than my V30s right now. I bet they'll break in and sound much better though! They are tighter and crunchier for sure!

Nice work. Definitely MESA content!

I think they both are good, but that something is missing...
Veteran is bright enough, but doesn´t have that "kick *** character"
 Maybe you could mix them and see what you get then?
Try allso how they work if you pan veteran to left and celestion to right

Always a good idea to count your posts! 8)
That way you won't end up getting arrested for a PUI (posting under the influence)

All kidding aside, I prefer the sound of the Celestion....but then the quality of the recording is not doing either one justice. Is anyone else picking up a distinct warble on these?
Also try again after they break in. Are you using the DC 30?

As someone eluded to, they may be a good compliment to the Stiletto brightness factor...too bad you still don't have yours to try it with. Maybe someone does that can post some clips........

Later! :D

Hey, I think I fixed the warble issue. I re-uploaded the clips in a different format. Also, make sure you are listening to the hi-fi version! That one sounds the best. And, yes, that is my DC-3 in the recordings. Love it!

YES, my vote goes to VETERAN.
Great sound man!!!
Just imagine how it sounds with high volumes, would be even better... give your house some thrill and record it
I heard your strings there, so you recorded at low levels?

You are right, sir. I barely had it cracked - live in an apartment. Breaking them in is problematic because of this as well. Still sounds pretty bloody good! I basically just tweak my treble down some for now... once they are broken in i'll bump it back up. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Very interesting post. I had just contacted Warehouse about some Green Beret replacements for my cab, so its good to hear positive feedback on their product. Thanks
