Oh yes, what is a 6550 used in? Thanks

-AJH
-Ampeg's Bass amp SVTs[?].
-Estoric Hi Fi power amps.
-80ish US import Marshalls (JCM800s[?])
- I think VHT used them in one of their amp models.

They're really powerful power stage tubes and usually use in bass amps or power amps and some guitar amps.

12ax7 preamp tubes and the 6550's. Not too bad pricing, I think I'm going to pick up a couple of the preamp tubes for the v-1 position!!

not bad pricing but those come straight from New Sensor in NY (distributor for Sovtek, EH, new Svetlana , new TungSol, new Mullard, all from the same Reflektor factory). there's no extra testing or grading of any kind.

Doug's Tubes or Tube Depot would be better choices. A few extra bucks is worth it for a tube thats been tested to be low noise and high output.

Why do so many Mesa guys use Tung Sol 12AX7 in the V1 position?
I've nerver tried them, but i'm getting an entire set to retube my Studio Preamp. Many say they're the best sounding 12AX7's out there. V1 is considered the most critical postion as related to influence on tone. Take a look at this (taken from an online amplification shop site, don't remember which):
