my bandmate and i were attempting to track guitars today and couldn't due to the ridiculous amount of hum my '97 american strat was making. i tooled around on the net to see if there were any suggestions, and came across some faqs on shielding and whatnot. i took a piece of aluminum foil and fiddled around with my guitar, and sure enough, touching it to one of the screws on the pickup selector almost completely canceled the hum (assuming i was touching the strings).
i was gonna go through and shield the whole thing, but is this a specific problem i can fix, or is it gonna take an afternoon with a soldering iron? thanks in advance
