Simply because I like a smooth lead sound.

PMB, To me (and others) the presence knob can be the difference between the aggressive, edgy sound the III is famous for and a sweet smooth sound. Set it to zero, then crank it to hear what a huge difference it can make. I usually set mine from 2-4, but I also don't use a lot of gain. My knobs vary almost daily, but generally I like the treble at 8ish pulled, Mid at 5-8, bass at 4-7 pulled, vol at 4-6 pulled, lead drive 2-3, master 2-4 pulled. EQ is a mild "v" with the center fader a little below the cut line. For me the EQ is the key to either scooping the sound or Marshallizing it with some LOWS and MIDS. Too much on the treble end of the EQ qnd it gets fuzzy/buzzy. I had a little trouble with it at first, but after pairing it up with my Brian Moore with JB pups, it's become my main setup. Keep at it!!

Thanks dude
I normally don't use that lot of bass but I'm going to try your trick with presence control
I have a 150 watts version so there's never a problem with being not loud enought, most of the time, my master is below 2.
