Ive searched the forum but havent been able to find the answer to my question. Im wondering if I can go from the Slave Out on my V to a DI box to an interface for recording, and then I would apply a cab simulation. Would that work? If so, do I need to the DI or should I go directly to the interface? Basically I want to record my amp tones but I dont have the most ideal room for mic'ing nor the time for trial and error for mic placement or the reamp box that would speed up the process. thanks!

What I usually do is:
1) Connect the fx loop "Send" to the input of your interface
2) Connect a dummy 1/4 inch jack to fx loop "Return"
3) leave the amp on MUTE, so no sound will come out of the speaker at all...

PS: MAKE SURE you have your amp conected to a cab, so you dont damage anything...

This way you send your preamp sound to your interface and you can use Lecab2 for exemple with your favorite IRs !!! no need to mess with the slave out, which I think is supposed to be used for other purposes.

Enjoy ...

Ok, that sounds logical. But what exactly is a dummy 1/4" jack? Like a terminator plug or something?

It is just a plug with nothing connected to... or a regular instrument cable ...

Cool, thanks I'll give that a try. Do you have any recorded examples of this setup online?

Alternatively for 1) and 2), you could simply use the tuner out, which is the exact same signal as the fx send but hotter (because its before the fx send level pot).

The only thing you are missing here is the sound colouration of the poweramp.... this is only preamp signal thru cabinet simulator unless your tool supports it as well.

Can we hear any recordings?

I was wondering about the lack of poweramp in the loop myself

There are several ways to do it. You can take the line out directly into your daw with no DI box. I found it to be a bit noisy. Also, I like to record silently, so I don't use that method.

I use a load box (thd hotplate). The hotplate is connected between the speaker out of the V and my speaker cab. I turn the hotplate on to load (so no sound comes out of the speaker cab) then use the line out from the hotplate into my daw (fl studio). I apply speaker impulses in fl.

Here is an example of that.

Sounds pretty good, but my objective was to see if I could use what I already own to throw some cab sims on my V's raw tone. If I have to buy another iece of equipment I'd almost rather get a reamp box so could get a good raw, unprocessed guitar part and then be able to go back and dial in a tone and the right mic placement for my cab. IDK though. How much are these load boxes?

I think I paid two something used. You can do the same thing with the line out though. You just won't be able to record silently.
