I'm looking to upgrade my preamp section (currently using a Digitech 2101 for effects and preamp), but I'm stuck on which pre to get. I have a 2:90 and 2 4x12 cabs, both with celestion speakers. I have read some of the other posts, but I have yet to come to a final decision. Most of the music I play is heavily distorted (think Korn, older Metallica, Pantera, Chimaira, etc), and the current setup tends to get mushy sounding. My Ibanez S540LTD has EMG's, and so does my 7-string ESP. I have tried the Triaxis v2, but now it seems that all I can get is a v3 with a Lonestar board instead of the Recto board. I really liked the triaxis, but it seems that I'll be missing out on the Recto sound if I go with the new version. Should I go for the new Triaxis, search for an older Triaxis, get a Recto Pre, or take a completely different path? Thanks in advance! Adam

For the kind of music you're playing, I'd go with the Recto pre. I love mine. :D

Hey guys,
I think there are pro's & cons for both preamps, I have a Triaxis and it's the best preamp I've ever heard, to my ears. I personally think the recto channel of the Triaxis sounds like ***, but that's my opinion. I guess what I'm trying to say here is to take the time & try them out for yourself. If you already have speaker cabs & poweramps etc., then take them with you when you try the preamps out if it's practical for you to do so. That way you'll know how it sounds & behaves with your gear.

Take your time and try them each out at length, like really spend some time with them. Most of all, let your ears be the final choice.

Good luck........Joe :)

I own both the Triaxis and Recto Pre.

I bought the Recto Pre mainly for recording Direct. It's agreat amp, but if push came to shove, I'd choose the Triaxis for everything else...

...especially for gigging. It's super versatile, has very smooth Mark-ish lead tones, and is very capable of producing brutal tones.... all programmable and MIDI switchable.

The Recto, as we all know, has a very distinct tone and fills a particular niche... but, there are all sorts of amps that produce a great HEAVY tone without being in the Recto family.
