Very Nice! I really enjoyed the "Ch 3 Vintage - Little harder now..." I was grinning from ear to ear! care to share those settings? I can't help to hear a lot of the Road King (I know basically the same amp). Great stuff!

Thanks! Master at 9:30, presence, bass & mid at 9:00, treble at 12:00, gain between 10:00 and 2:00. 50w, bold and diodes. The BurstBuckers on the LP are very bright and hot, so start from there.

Great tones!! can u dial some Jazz tones on Roadster too? something like a George Benson or Larry Carlton

I'm sure it's possible, but I sure can't play like them! Actually, I can get a pretty good Larry Carlton/Steely Dan thing going with a SparkleDrive on Tweed.

Sorry about your bank account Tuna - same as mine... ah, it's only money.

Hey dual rec, what's modded on your DR?

Thanks for the comments guys!!

wow them clips sound awsome. prob the best i have heard on the net using a roadster. did you use a hot plate while recording them tracks or any other effects? compressors etc... i would love to have tone like that,i love my triple rec, but i doesnt have that dark tone i like when it get turned loud, i was thinking about getting a hot plate for that. most places i play at i never turn the master more than 11:00 anyway so i dont get that full tube sound.

My DR has been biased and set up to run 6550 tubes. The guy who modded my amp is from nashville and he mods mostly marshalls but he got my dual and decide to take the amp and mod it and bias it for 6550 tubes. Im not positive what else is modded but some of it is wired differently etc. It sounds one of a kind and its awesome btw. I need to post some clips but I dont really know how I should go about it.

I'll bet that does sound interesting - can you compare it to the standard recto sound?

Wow, the Tweed setting might have just sold another one of these. Well done!
Hehe.. I'm expecting a commision t-shirt any day now.

I know I'm an ******* for asking, but if you wanted, you're always free to post as many clips as you want :p

Sorry it took so long fredster, My amp is highly moded and i think it sounds great. Compared to a regular recto the tone is better in the warm way on channel 2 but my 3 channel is just raw. Just like the recto it is my metal channel and it rips. It has been a while since i played a normal recto but they are great stock. I need to figure out how to post clips. :D

Ok that's it.....I'm selling my Dual Rec and my 5150II and getting a Roadster.

Killer playing Fred. I really liked the Bark At The Moon clip.

Hehe - thanks! I hope you love it as much as I do. I'm finding new tones on this thing every day. It's almost frustrating, I want to play all my guitars on every channel all at once...

Hi fredster,

I Recently got my roadster head and a 2x12 recto cab...the same setup you have I think. If you get a chance, can you post more/clips and the settings you use for each including wattage, selected rectifier, bold/spongy (and settings for the original clips you posted)? I can easily get the classic Recto grind...no prob...and clean/Fat/tweed/brit offer unique tones. I'm trying to find some good 80's hair metal settings. Also, as you mentioned, the 2x12 recto cab has a lot of bass and the bass is kinda loose and sometimes "boomy". Any suggestions on how to tighten up the bass?

Another thing I noticed is that the roadster is very useable for practice at household levels. The volume adjustments seems to have a fine range and the level doesn't immediately jump from nothing to blasting. Cool!

Thanks! :D

Hey Fred,I forgot to ask you. Did you get the "Roadster 2x12" or the Recto 2x12. I was over in G.C. Mayfield Heights last weekend and they had a Roadster 2x12 there. Very compact(about 2 inches shorter all around)looking setting on top a Recto 2x12.
Also Dale over there told me they(Guitar Centers) wont be getting any Roadsters in stock....'special order only".
He didny know what to say when I said you bought your's at N.Y.Music.
Guess he felt ""denyied"" !

Too funny! I got the Recto 2x12 with my DR so I just use that. Sold the DR though! I'd be interested in trying out the Roadster cab - you know, I went to NYMusic because they had a Mark IV to try. I was in GC the night before and if Jay had come down $50 on a Marshall 601 I wouldn't even have the Roadster now. lol!

Hey scolli! Glad you got your cab ok.

I was in such scurry to get clips posted I didn't write everything down. I can tell you this though - I'm sure everything was bold and rectified at 50w. For channel 3 Vintage I start from here:

Master - 11:00
Presence - 10:00 or so
Bass - a little higher than 9:00
Mid - a little less than 9:00
Treble - 12:00
Gain - between 11:00 and 1:00.

I say start from there - YMMV greatly depending on guitar & pickups. For Hair Metal, remember this is a Boogie and won't sound like a Marshall no matter how hard you try. I think you could get close starting from the above settings. Little tweaks go a long way!

To tighten up the bass I just lower it. Sounds simplistic, but if you think about the tone your tweaking in relation to the others it works better on Boogies. If you want to scoop the mids, don't just lower them, also boost the bass and treble. To dial out the bass a bit, up the mids and treble a bit as well as lowering the bass. I find myself tweaking the presence for what I would normally grab the treble for and I think about the treble more as a high freq. distortion control. You definately want to study the manual for this - it's all in there! The tone controls really do relate to each other in a very unique way.

The other thing about the Roadster is the way the Master control seems to act like a secondary gain control, especially in Tweed and Brit. At about 10:30 it stops adding volume to the channel and starts adding tons of gain. Given that you may get some Hair Metal on the Brit channel (and at comfortable volumes) with the master up at 12:00, the gain up at 3:30 and the Output pretty low.

HTH!
