Hi all, first post here. Have had my Roadster head for about six weeks now. Love it! I have a Marshall 4x12 1960 a with Vintage 30's in it. For portability reasons I've been thinking about buying a 2x12 cabinet as a secondary cabinet. I see that there are both Roadster 2x12's and Rectifier 2x12's. The Rectifiers look to be just a bit bigger but otherwise seem to have the same materials.

Thoughts on the tonal differences between the two? My guess is that there probably pretty similar but maybe I'm missing something.

Did a quick search but didn't see any threads comparing the two.

Thanks in advance

Here's an excellent audio comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnJGAEyodHE
This is a comparison of the recto vs. road king cab. After a quick forum search, I did not see where anyone on the forum has compared the recto and roadster 2x12s side by side. (I could be wrong, my search was brief. I do have a job as well as a new mini rec to play with! !)
They are both closed back cabs made out of the same type of wood, with V30's so i would guess the difference is minimal.

I have a roadster 2x12 combo. I have no idea how that compares to the 2x12 roadster cab. I also have a 2x12 port city...let's just say you are doing yourself a disservice not lookin at the port city.

Essentially the difference will be:

Rectifier - More bottom end with brighter highs and more scooped mids.

Roadster - A bit less bottom and top end, with a bit more push in the mids.

The differences are subtle, but there.

I own a roadster 2x12 cab that I use with my Mark V. I posted something about it right after I got it back in october. I'm too lazy to type it all out again so ...

I'm a Roadster 2x12 cab owner of 2 weeks and have played the 2x12 Recto cab many times in different stores, so take this for what it's worth. I think that the roadster cab and recto cab have very similar overall characteristics, which makes sense seeing as how they are made from the same wood, same speakers, same construction... the only difference is the size, just like the recto and stiletto 4x12's. But just like in the 4x12's, the smaller size of the roadster cab rolls off a little of the very high frequencies and is tighter in the bass frequencies, making it less scooped sounding (and a little more well rounded and versatile IMO) than the rectifier cab but still with its same inherent tonal qualities. I was concerned that, using the roadster 2x12 with my Mark V, I wouldn't get enough bass response. After playing through it for a little bit, I wouldn't be too worried. With the cab on the floor, you can definitely still feel the bass transfer through the room and back up into your hands. In my experience, the recto cabs (2x12 and 4x12) don't so much add bass response as they alter the way it reacts. Some people might like what it does for their tone, but I personally think that it just makes the low mids sound really woofy (in a bad way) and takes away some of the definition of the sound. IMO, Roadster cab > Recto cab.
This is from a few months ago but after having owned it for a bit longer, I still agree with everything I said.
