REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

I have the feeling that Mesa/Gibson were hyperaware of the IIC+'s association with metal and were trying to demonstrate some range to keep it from being pigeonholed. But this might have been too far in the other direction.

I was honestly trying to give Dinesh Lekhraj the benefit of the doubt, but after going back to look at his Mark VII demo, he either has to be being told specifically the type of music Gibson wants on a demo, or somehow even after working at Mesa Hollywood for years he has no idea how to dial in a mark series amp.

I wasn’t gonna go for a few reasons… 1 being I had to accept Kev wasn’t coming back to this band and I just felt old friendships were falling apart.
John was super excited to have Jordan come in and that night John’s tone was mind boggling!!!!

Mike B. is not getting any credit on the development which I find a bit odd. So far the story has been that it was Mike B. who modified the IIC with the input from Doug West without involvement from Randal Smith. Is this because this isnt true, gibson wants for marketing purposes utilize alternative facts or Mike B. does not want to be named. What do you guys think about this and why gibson is doing gibson things?

Gibson involvement in the promotional videos is evident They really are milking it. They go to great lenghts explaining how borderline impossible it was to realize this product, "that's not available today, that's not available today what to do what to do". Vactrols are the only components that are not available today, but one would assume that competent electrical dude has no issues finding correct replacement. Especially because they still have people who were involved with the original design so they propably know what was use and why, which helps greatly.

I still think Randall was wise enough not to re-issue MkIIC+. Number of units is so limited that very few have actually tried one, so you basically get away with anything. Every time they released new Mk-series amp, they could claim it's that bit closer to IIC+.

Because GIBSON HAS THE FUNDS SND RESOURCES TO BUY THE PARTS TO REISSUE THE C+ $$$$$$$

Well, that answers many questions. Cool that you can run EL34s in the Class A. I am just waiting for D-Day to get mine. Will have to experiment with the STR447 (EH EL34), STR446 (TAD Red-base EL34) and I also have some STR450 (Siemens EL34) as well as STR442 (=C=EL34). Now I am excited. Wonder how the STR454 (=C= 6L6) will sound as well. May have to pull the STR415 from the JP2C and try those as well. I like that you can run all 6L6 or integrated quad 6L6/EL34. I will be busy when mine arrives. Looking forward to an old/new adventure.

These amps were passed by Randall,Mike and Doug using a metal grill 2x12 straight through…. Once you comprise the signal tone using a OD it becomes a different amp…

Anyone suspect Randall “retired” (left Mesa or was fired) after Gibson bought Mesa because they wanted to “reproduce”/ “re-release” the C+?

I really can’t understand (and can’t stand) when people referring to a metal tone simply scoop a mid control ALL THE WAY DOWN and believe that’s it!

If you own a Mark amp, you know (or should know) that the magic tones happen with the 750 slider above the bottom line, or around there. And that a millimeter movement of the sliders in general can transform a gorgeous tone into a “not that good” tone…

Interesting stuff with the launch. The Sweetwater promo video was cringey (tone settings aside). I watch those guys’ channels (didn’t know the gal). The half hearted compliments and forced vibe was 100% cringe. They aren’t huge Boogie guys to start with (maybe Fluff a bit). It was where you felt embarrassed watching it, sensing how uncomfortable it was for them.

I wasn’t planning on getting a IIc+ as I need/love the versatility and tone of modern Marks.

As he mentioned it's in the manual (and others) and you simply turn it down enough until it goes away and or modify your gain staging a bit. Has nothing to do with the demos

I dunno, while I don’t have any II experience, that seems like pretty typical noise issues one is going to encounter with a lot of older high gain amps at extreme settings. Especially marks (based on my III and IV experiences especially, but really more older high gain circuits too)

Noise gates didn’t become a thing/staple on high gain setups for no reason. Plenty of modern high gain circuits are dead quiet, but this is a true to original RI…

I can state with certainty that my III would squeal like that at similar settings especially at drummer level in room volume. And at even less extreme settings, even with some basic input gating from my stomp in 4CM

Not this forum but there are other forums that are hard to gauge this amp. It seems like the OG IIC+ owners are rooting for this amp to fail so that theirs maintain, or increase in value. There’s a forum I won’t mention where guys are laughing about the squeal and saying I guess my IIC+ is up in value.
