Hey guys,

Just bought a rectoverb series 2 from a friend that was working prior to me buying it, but now trips the fuse when taken off standby. When turned on, it has a bit of audible hum (with standby on), but stays running, when taken off standby, the amp produces a louder hum for about one second and then pops the fuse.

I dont know where to start diagnosing this issue, so looking for ideas!

Thanks!

Sounds like you have your speaker connected if you are getting a loud HUM. It could be a power tube thats shot. check out this youtube video. I found it great for a tube amp newb like myself.

The amp should make NO sound when in standby. Is the hum during standby coming from the SPEAKER, or the AMP CHASSIS?

Could be a bad preamp tube or capacitor that is causing an oscillation. Blowing a fuse means the amp is drawing a LOT more current than it is designed for. That is a bad thing.

I would try pulling out the power tubes and powering up the amp. See if you still get any hum, and see if the fuse blows. That would help show if the problem is in the power section only, or the preamp as well.
