Hey, I want to order a Mark V but the music store locally said it takes anywhere from 2-4months usually for them to call Mesa, order one, have it built and sent. I like supporting local music stores, but would ordering online from say Sweetwater or a online site that has them in stock at the time be a better deal due to speed of acquisition and 30-45day money back periods? If I ordered it locally at the mesa dealer, i would have to pay 1,000 dollars immediately as a downpayment and then wait 4months and pay the 2nd half when its here, I wouldnt be able to return it! I tried it 3 times before and I definitely want one but what do you guys think, online store that has in stock, or locally and wait? I think online actually might be better due to time and policies for returns.

All depends man. Seems like you want it bad and if your like me whereas I am mega impatient; I would just order it online. Yeah I hate stores that don't have a return policy. I prefer when you the 30 days to play with it and see if you really like it.

I would definitely order online. Support your local store when they have something in stock :)

Call the online Store that has it in stock and ask them for the unopen box so you get everything that comes with it.
A lot of times stores like guitar center will open the box and they take stuff out and don't put it back.

There's no way I'd be able to wait 2-4 months if I was ready to pull the trigger. I'd even have a hard time waiting 2-4 days... or even 2-4 hours! Order it now online and get it sooner than later!!

buy my 112 combo so i can buy a head.....

Hmmmm. Yeah I think I'll try calling some online stores to see if they have it. What are so other good online stores besides sweetwater and guitarcenter that sell the mark v head that are reliable and have a return policy? I can't wait 4months!

Well Guitar Center does not have any and neither does Sweetwater, do you guys know any places that have them in stock online (or in smaller stores on the west coast?) I would need to get it shipped to Hawaii, thanks!

You know that is just about the only bad thing about living in Hawaii.....

Haha, yeah it is. Im lookin into haggerdy music, hopefully they can ship via air or boat to Hawaii, and hopefully not to expensive! Any other suggestions?

haha mork, I will be moving to either Arizona Washington or California in the next year and a half, but not til then!

We have a head in stock at work </*****>

I waited six months for my Mark V and I work for a dealer. You should be able to wait a little bit ;)

Seriously, though. As an independent music retailer I respect your urge to 'support local music'. What I would suggest is that you still buy from an independent store as opposed to a big box retailer (sweetwater, gc, etc). Many mom'n'pops will be happy to ship you an amplifier (hint hint ;)

haha, really? how bad are they? back to amp discussion, on my Spider Valve HD100, I always use a Boss EQ thru the loop to make it sound good and I guess more "marky?" without the EQ it sounds terrible, everything is thin! I'm wondering if this is the reason why I like the mark over the roadster, besides the fact it has a whole different feel to it. The mark EQ controls are pre-gain and the roadsters are post. I just felt like when I plugged into the roadster and i played clean with no EQ, it lacked something, im not sure, but I think it was due to no EQ. haha

Just would like to let you guys know, I just ordered a Mark V head brand new from Haggerdy Music after searching online for a while. It should come next monday or tuesday, which beats 4months by a long shot! I'm really excited because I must say Ive researched amps for MANY hours, and the Mark V took most of that time. Right now i'll just use it for home jamming until my band gets set up to do gigs on a boat a couple times a week for $$! I might order some preamp tubes from dougstubes.com to replace the stock mesa ones or to experiment when I get it, and I'll just use mesa's power tubes for a while, unless replacin them with different 6L6s would help. I already have a 4x12 cab with V30's in it so I cant wait to unload it, hook it up, and tone tweak to my hearts desire! How does this amp do in a live situation? sadly the modes on each channel are not switchable but if I really want exact tones, I can just write down settings for songs in live situation, probably wont really need to anyway! Clean crunch and lead and im good to go. Also, how does this amp sound if you leave the EQ off on certain channels? Does it sound good without the EQ on for some situations?

This coming monday is way better than 24 mondays from now. Does not seem right it takes months to get an amp. Were not talking about a space shuttle, just an amp... I did a few tube swaps. For me the biggest change was to CH1 going more rock and less clean when putting in SED Winged C 6L6 and Tung Sols across the board in the preamp. The reverb got much stronger. Now Tweed on Bold can cover Early Sabbath and Ch 3 IV is a tiny bit more gainy. Great amp stock. IMO speaker cabs make more of a diff than a tube or two, maybe you can find the perfect tube and speaker and get to heaven..

On the MK1 mode and how it gets a bad rep.
MK1 mode is still picky, gotta be cranked to sound un-muffled if that is your definition of good. I keep hearing posts about 'taking the blanket off the amp' in MK1 mode. That Santana sound is cool at times, but if you take all the bass and mid out, crank the master while low on gain, you can make it sound more like IIC+, but then why not just use that mode? It's a cool mode, just takes some working with. After 4 months with my MKV, I am still finding guitar/amp/effect combinations.

Happy Tweaking!
