hi folks,

I've got a Roadster amp, which will have JJ KT77 tubes in it.

I mostly play AOR, rock, hard rock, fusion kind of music, I rarely play metal.

I need a tight, modern, high gain sound, with some british flavour, with more, open mids, and a singing voice. Eliminating the fizz would be great!
Having a lead tone as described above is the top priority.

What kind of preamp tubes would you recommend?

thank you in advance!

I think you expect too much from swapping preamp tubes personally. You'll notice subtle differences for sure, but nothing like how you described.

I would look at the bigger picture beyond just the preamp tubes. Perhaps EL34's, a boost pedal in addition to swapping preamp tubes may get you closer to what you described. Heck maybe you need another amp altogether? :D

Changing speakers/speaker cab may also have more of an effect than just changing the preamp tubes as well imo.

this is what i'm running and absolutely love it. With this config i get just about any tone you can think of.
