Old metal grate Vertical 2x12 -vs- Newer vertical 2x12

Has anyone owned both? I am looking for a vert. 2x12 for my mini-recto. I like the thought of the EV in the ported bottom half of the older 2x12's. Whats the tone difference than the newer V30 loaded vertical cabs?
Tighter bottom end? Not much difference?

Any thought or insightful information would be helpful.
