I had tube lightning going on last week in one tube. I just got 4 new power tubes for my DR and STILL the same thing. I turn the amp on..tubes warm up...then hit the standby switch and ONE TUBE JUST GOES CRAZY. Blue lightning type stuff inside the tube and the amp hums.

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS? It's gotta be within the amp. I have a 2002 Dual Recto. Please help.

Short answer:
It's normal, don't worry, be happy.
Long answer:
(Try Googling "tube blue glow")

No dude, this is not normal. I have been messing around with tube amps for a while now and NEVER seen anything like this. The tube has sparks and lightning bolts popping in it. I just got some new one's and it did the same to one of the new tubs. It's gotta be a short within the amp itself I guess.

Allen Music has a tube amp repair guy. I believe his name is Ted. Give him a call on monday and he will talk with you about it. He works cheap and fast to. Could be a loose connection or a bad solder joint.

I had the same thing happen to a Lee Jackson head once and I cleaned all the tube sockets real ggod and hit the solder joints and it worked.

Good luck with it...

Yea, I was gonna give Ted a call tomorrow. He has worked on the amp before. He is cheap and does good work. So this same thing happened to you? The tube had sparks in it everytime you flipped on the standby switch?

Yeah... Mine looked like a strobe light going off when you hit the power in just one power tube... I just cleaned all the tube sockets and connections real well and hit the solder joints and it never done it again.

I think I might have switched power tubes out as well... But as I said before it was in a Lee Jackson amp and not my mesa.
