It's just kind of digital and really puts and ice pick in my tone. I have like 6 days left on my return policy to try something new. I got it from guitar center, they dont have any maxon pedals :x but i remember they had a OCD in there, a TS808, a ZW overdrive, and some boss overdrives.

What else do you guys suggest? I want something for metal that is going to give an edge to my tone, and give me rich harmonics, but not ice pick it.

sorry for this double post, but i decided i dont even need an overdrive with my mark iv. it sounds sooooo much better recorded withOUT an overdrive.

i just want some cool effects for leads and what not.

you know, sometimes when you've got a great lead tone to begin with, but just want a little something more, a clean boost is a perfect add.

Barber makes a clean boost called a 'Launch Pad', that sounds excellent.

doesn't change your tone at all, but makes it much more present, crisp, alive, maybe something like that would be the ticket.

I got my TS-808 from the local Guitar Center store - I really like it. It has a mid-frequency bias- but I simply dial down the tone knob. It gives a nice boost.

i just got an ocd in a trade and its cool for the mark iv. not so much in a lead sense but with r1 or 2 it creates a whole new vibe. super cool and definately a keeper

I had mentioned my preference for the TS-808 over the TS-9 in another post. The piercing high tones are one of the reasons I don't like them, but that's the price of using newer chips. I have an OCD that can be just as painful if you let it, but at least you can dial it back somewhat. The TS-808 re-issue or original is the best of most worlds. Much smoother high end and subtle bumps in gain make it a great pedal for use in front of your gain channel. Just a little extra edge. And there are others as well.

If you're really looking for a gain only pedal you might want to see if you can find a Zoom PD-1. They were discontinued some time ago but they do a fantastic job with adding just the right amount of extra push to either a clean or distorted signal. Super pedal for Fender guitars with single coils and an even better sound with humbuckers. I bought 3 off of Ebay and didn't pay more than $40 for any of them. Some people claim they're a poor mans Klon. I won't go that far, but they sure sound good, good enough that I've let 2 people talk me out of them and am now down to one.
