I bought this brand new, and am loving it. However, the tone is VERY warm, and doesn't seem to have as much high-end sparkle. (I haven't really cranked it yet though).
I popped in a couple EH's, and a couple JJ's. Both sounded like POO compared to stock, (except I left a balanced/graded JJ ECC803S in the PI which seemed to add some bite, and sustain).
What's the deal with the stock (12AX7-A Russian-2, as they're labeled) tubes? Why do they sound SO MUCH better? As far as I know, they're just run of the mill Sovteks? I've never heard Sovteks that sounded so good.
Also - is this excess warmth common until the V30 "breaks in"?
