well ive had my recto for a year now and it just doesnt have the same tone that it used to ive heard good things bout eurotubes and checked them out called and they recommended 6v6s or 6l6gcs and if i really wanted to they sed kt88s .... because i need more gain and more low end

now i figd kt88s were too big and a totally diff breed to fit the recto but they sed they wud fit .... any one know if thered be any problems with them? id fig heat and draw would be different between that and a traditional 6l6......

and any recommendations on the preamps and rectifier tubes

all of your questions are already here, just do a few quick searches and you will be good to go.

Most guys here really like the Tung Sol 12AX7 reissues in the preamp.

To go KT-88 I am pretty sure that you will need a mod. Last year one guy in La Mirada, CA, sold his DR that was modded to run 6550's or KT-88's. Eurotubes will typically sell you tubes that are selected for the range of your amp. I think Bob knows what he is doing. He isn't about to give himself a bad reputation by selling you tubes that will damage your amp.

Again, read through old posts. There is a lot of info regarding tube selection and Eurotubes.

Im pretty sure they meant KT77's,,,, I just ordered a set from dougs for my ROV, Awsome. I believe that is what you would use with a recto,,,but I could be wrong about the kt88's,,,,
The kt77;s are a direct replacement for el34's

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a matched quad of KT77's, even beyond Eurotubes, I've heard good things. My local amp tech guru here gives me the thumbs up ! :D
And yes the KT88's would work as well, you have to figure, the Recto's fixed bias runs really cold but that's cool (pun intended) 'cause you can really take advantage of hotter plate voltages with different tubes.
**note: you guys with full warranties still active be careful.

Aaaahhhhh...the search for holy grail....still lovin' my '93 DR tone !

Im not sure what you mean here,,,but the prices cant be beat. If you want to go strictly JJ tubes then I would go with eurotubes because thats all they sell. Dougs tubes also sells JJ's but they offer a wide variety of other brands as well.. So when I decide to by JJ's I go with eurotubes,,otherwise im on the phone with dougs tubes.
Ive dealt with both places and they both love to talk tubes,,both know their ****,,both are fair on shipping and pack the tubes equally well.
Whoever you decide to call just tell them what amp you are using and make sure you tell them the sound you are going for. They will give you their ideas and suggestions from there.....Ive ordered from both a total of 4 or 5 times and have been extremely happy every time.

Very cool man, I really appreciate the info ! I may try the GT E34Ls which is the JJ design but with the extra heat sink welded on the plate exclusive to GT that allows it to run cooler and offer more wattage.

I'm also jonesin' to try the KT77'S as I've heard it's the best of both 6L6/EL34 worlds.

In the past, I've always run 6L6's but last year I went to EL34's in my DR and LOVE the tone.

Thanks bro ! 8)

Im with you on trying the el34's,,,right now ive got a set of SED c winged el34's in my ROV. Im enjoying the hell out of it right now.. I bought a few different set of tubes ,,6l6 and el34, I swap them around once in a while for something a bit different. A few days ago I received a set of
KT77's and some TAD 6l6-wgc's from dougs tubes,,,he highly spoke of the TADS. I havent tried either yet because ive been enjoying the mid heavey bright sounding el34's.

Dude, let me know how those KT77's sound, I'm really anxious to check those out !
The Svetlana winged C are nice, awhile back I had a set of 6L6 SED and they were awesome.
I'm very into the Recto tone with EL34's though, I have Ruby's EL34bstr's in right now and diggin' em much.

Again, let me know how you like the KT77's when you get a chance !
