Just got this about a week ago but never got the chance to post anything. Really liking the voicing of this amp. Seems a lot tighter than the Rectoverb and the gain never seems to get too harsh or fizzy. I find the cleans are nicer than my rectoverb as well.

congrats! you playing it low at the 10 watts? works fine for me, loop engaged switch on also:)

Cool setup.. a mesa 2x12 is next on my shopping glint.

What stand is that you have the cab on? I'm surprised it can take the load.

I love modern and find its just not as aggressive on 10w. Again, Its still new so I will have to play with it some more but for now its 25w with my master about 8:00.

Says it can hold up to 90lbs. The cab and head sit fine on it. The stand does wobble a little, but nothing that would make me think its going to fall over.

I have to play a little lower at times like 7 o clock .im saying for bed room 10 watt ,modern sounds better to me playing at low volumes, I turn the 25 for full cranked amp:) im using a 12 g speaker cable and the mercury magnetics power cord 14 G. The seems cleaner sounding for sure.

I was really surprised how quiet this amp was with the gain dimed. Im also running with a Furman conditioner.

I will have to try out 10w again as I also need to quiet when kids are sleeping.

Cool setup, didn't had any chance yet to play with that little monster. How do you compare the Het set to the stock 81/60? (sorry if out of thread but I'm a Mesa->ESP->EMG user also willing to swap to that new set).

surprised on how quiet it is also:) I like the thick tone on the modern with gain at 3 o clock, bass and presence off some like 10 o clock for my les paul. My les paul sounds so thick! JJ power tubes sound better!! Tube depot 26 rating.

I like them better over stock. More headroom, nicer attack, more output, and they look much much nicer than the black plastic. I sold my stock EMGs 1 week after installing the Het set. Fluffy has a set two and dumped is Blackouts if I recall.

oh no... more gas..

Yeah, black grill w/ silver logo strip looks killer.

Ok, you're making me gasin' really hard :D

Did you ever tried the Mini Recto cab?

No I never tried the 1x12 recto cab. I never tried a 2x12 either. I just went by recommendation members gave here in the forums. Couldnt be happier!

I was a H&K 4x12 user then the other guitarist in my band bought a Recto 2x12 and I said: "ok, time to swap cab!" and I couldn't be happier.

2 channel??? Solo boost on the pedalboard like most rectifiers? I am considering the mini rectifier or a series II Single Rectifier. Which ever is less fizzy. My fear is the mini sounds too small and can't hang in a band setting in small clubs. Is it more of a little practice amp?

Make no mistake, the MR is not a practice amp. It doesn't even start to sound good until it's quite loud. It is slightly less loud than a single rec if both are at full volume.

I think that for any gig where a MR is not loud enough, you'd be mic'ing the amps anyway.

For tone, there are at least a couple of good shootouts on youtube.

One really cool thing about the MR is that it's not a one-trick-pony. It gets a lot of great tones.

You will absolutely need to run at least a 2x12 to get it to sound right, same as with any other rectifier.

I read somewhere that a 5w head is only 1/2 as loud as a 50w, so the 25w is about 3/4 the volume of the 50w.

I find that I have to have the master about the same place as I do on my Rectoverb. 9:00 is loud. I havent really got to 10-11 yet.

And as for fizz, Ive been on the holy tube hunt for a year or so trying to find a tube combination to help tame my rectoverb. The mini sounds great with stock tubes, cant wait to toss in my Ruby HG+s.

25W is 3dB less than 50W. 5W is 10dB less than 50W.
3dB is mildly noticeable. 10dB is noticeable.

Since hearing is logarithmic, it takes a huge change in power to make much difference in perceived volume. One rule of thumb is that you have to square power to double volume (100W is 2X louder than 10W).

Also, most people do not run their amps wide open. So you're not using all 50W from your amp (probably).

The biggest effect that most people will get from using a lower power amp is that it will sound more compressed. This happens when you run the lower power amp closer to its power limit to compensate for loss in volume. That means that the transient peaks will clip a bit more, reducing your dynamics. This is not really noticeable if 90% of your clipping happens in the preamp, like it does in a rectifier.

It's much more noticeable in an amp like the Electradyne or Marshall, where the power amp is more dominant.
