Hey I have a triple rectifier and im prety much just looking for a multi effects processor that you can use without having to use amp models..like just for the effects because i obviously just want to use my mesa's distortion lol. Anyone know if you can do that with The Boss gt-8 or Pod xt live pedals? thank you

I used to use a GT6 for fx but found it really took some bite off the tone and added bass overtones and I couldn't eq it out. Found I used only three patches with the same fx (delay, eq, phaser, comp, and wah) so I went the pedal route. Don't know if the gt8 would do the same or not. You can use the 4-cable method with the gt6/8 where you basically run split the preamp and power amp with the loop and end up having your mesa's preamp as an external distortion source for the processor, but it doesn't channel switch for you all.

G-Major, ever since I got mine I haven't touched my pedals. To me it out does the Boss and Line 6 units with ease (as long as you dont' need the distortions/amp modeleres), and yes I have owned a few of the boss multi fx pedals and racks (GT Pro, GX-700, GT-6), and a few line 6 units (xtpro, xtpro live, and the echo pro).

G Major looks amazing but I'm looking for something for a little less expensive thats not a rackmount

I own a GT-6 and tried (and tried) to use it for effects with my Roadster and just didn't like the way it "digitizes" the sound. I tweaked over and over just to get the GT-6 to sound transparent with no effects on and could not. No matter what I did with level settings etc. it was way too influential on tone.

The G-Major however is very transparent (everything effects tone IMO) and is designed to work well in the loop of an amp. They can be had even cheaper used.

actually i guess ur right. is there a case that will fit my head and rack in at all? or is that just asking for the impossible lol? Also..how the do you control all the effects on the g major is there some kinda footswitch cuz i looked around and didnt really see anything

You'd have to have a midi foot controller. It can be used to switch channels as well. I've thought about going the G-Major route, but the rack setup is not appealing to me since I don't gig very often...

i do gig atleast 2 or 3 times a week. but i usually have to get off the stage fast and dont feel like carrying around a rack lol. anyone know of any multi effects pedals that are descent for effects?

There are cases that will fit you're head and rack, but that gets heavy and odd sized fast. I play out a lot and use a 2 space rack for my g-major and power conditioner (I hate crap power from half the clubs and bars around here) and it's smaller than any pedal board I've needed for a couple of my bands. Any midi controller will control it, I use an old ada mc-1. Set up and tear down with a 2 space rack seems faster to me than using a pedal board or a couple of pedals. Only problem I have with the g-major is it doesn't have a 7 pin midi in to power controllers.

As far as multi f/x pedals go, you're gonna find about the same quality among line 6, boss, and digitech. They are all decent, and 99% of people can't tell the difference live between a multi f/x pedal and a rack full of gear.

try a boss me-50? my friend just got one and likes it.. similar story to yours, wanted a fairly cheap unit with solid effects, no amp modeling, and not a rack unit

im gonna try out the line 6 pod xt-live and the boss me-50. if they both suck then im just gonna buy seperate pedals hahah

I just picked up a digitech RP200A for portable effects to use with my F-30 when I don't want to lug my effects pedal around with the Roadster head and cab... Should be here this week!

Oh and I only paid $65 shipped for it on ebay!!

my g9.2tt has some great fx once yu turn off the preamp..... also if you ahve the money to spend find a used eventide harmonizer or the eclipse.... unrivaled fx.... coming close is the axe-fx by fractal audio..... also eventides new stomboxes are great.... if you only use a few effects like me (reverbs/delays/trem) they are a great hybrid between a all out multifx unit and simple stomp box

So, the digitech is for sale - it adds too much noise in front of the amp and sucks tone in the loop. I wish I could find something that did not suck tone (and suck altogether) that I could use to get some delay, chorus, and such on command AND without breaking the bank... the old ME-30's seem OK coz they have the manul mode to turn on/off effects and they have wah too. I don't need OD/DS though...

...with rack versus floor based effects, I would consider what type of interface would work well for you. Do you like to simply turn a nob until it sounds good (tactile control), or are you comfortable scrolling on a LCD and adjusting 4 seperate values on a chorus patch?

Some folks love to tweak things, others want to get a usable sound quickly and be done.

I have an older digitech 2101 artist that I love. It is highly programmable and with the dual processors, it can create just about anything you want, even lush synth style soundscapes. But, it was a pain in the a#$ for me to learn how to use well. I got it early on in my switch to electric on advise of a friend, and without a good idea of what I wanted to get out of it, it was a pain.

so thats my advice, pick up something that is compatable with the amount of time and energy you want to put in to it... S.
